My great grandmother sang it to my grandmother when a child just after WW1 so it’s at least that old.

My Grandfather sang us run along home. He said her learned it while in the CCC camp in New Mexico.

We sang this song at campfire:

I see the moon and the moon sees me
the moon sees somebody I'd like to see
so God bless the moon and God bless me
and God bless the somebody I'd like to see

So run along home and jump into bed
say your prayers, don't cover your head
the very last thing I say unto you:
Dream of me, I'll have sweet dreams of you.

Joe, if it sounds familiar, it's because the first half of the tune is... Log Driver's Waltz!

Worked for me too...nice little song played in single notes on a piano...easy enough to pick out the notes! :)

Barbara send a MIDI, and I think it's the tune I heard the other night. I swear I've heard the tune in other songs.
Thanks, Barbara.

I think this is older than the scouts. Seems like my grandmother sang it.
I learned it as per Joe's transcription. I'll see if I can find time to do you a MIDI.
Blessings,
Barbara

That is from

dragon.sleepdeprived.ca/songbook/songs8/S8_35.htm

However, many other sites are showing it as is your line two.

From another site, the stanza seems to be coupled with "I see the moon and the moon sees me". It is treated as stanza two of the song:

September 06, 2004 09:21 PM:

My favorite quiet time campfire song:

I see the moon and the moon sees me,
The moon sees somebody I'd like to see.
So God bless the moon and God bless me,
And God bless the somebody I'd like to see.

Now run along home and jump into bed,
Say your prayers and cover your head.
The very same thing I say unto you,
You dream of me, I'll have sweet dreams of you.

' Now Run Along Home

(This song is traditionally sung right after the Brownie Closing at the end of a Brownie meeting!)

Now run along home and jump into bed
Say your prayers, don't cover your head
The very last thing I say unto you
Is "You dream of me, and I'll dream of you." '

Note the difference in line two.

A newcomer sang this cute little song at our song circle last night, but I didn't quite catch the tune. Anybody know a songbook where I could find it, the origins of the song, or alternate versions?

Run Along Home and Jump Into Bed

Now run along home and jump into bed,
Say your prayers and cover your head.
The very same thing I say unto you,
You dream of me, and I'll dream of you.

there's a slightly different version and lots of other camp songs at American Camp Association. The listing in The Freedman Catalogue made me wonder if the song might have Jewish roots.
