i know absolutely nothing about the folk music scene, but i just recently became obsessed with phil ochs. anybody have suggestions for some other folk artists i might enjoy? thanks much!

Hi - if you like Phil Ochs, you might enjoy Mark Spoelstra - his CD's are available at Collectors' Choice Music, http://www.ccmusic.com/. There's a lot of 60's folk available at ccmusic.com.
For somebody more recent, you might like U.Utah Phillips.

As you should know, Phil Ochs was well known for his sociopolitical positions. I don't know how far you want to go with that, but folk-influenced artists who come to mind include Steve Goodman, Arlo Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen in some of his work, John McCutcheon, and Steve Earle. I'll let you evaluate their merits rather than endorsing them myself.

There are noteworthy female artists, too, if you're interested.

Check out John Flynn, Rod MacDonald, Joe Jencks, Anne Feeney. Just a few of the artists who combine social action with great musical skills.

What qualities about Phil Ochs do you like so much, so that we can make suggestions? There are a lot of excellent musicians around, both performers of traditional material and of their own, from his era and later on. It's a large territory.
