Subject: Brian Bruce From: woodsie Date: 31 Dec 06 - 02:08 AM Long time FolkMob regular performer and Orpington Folk Club stalwart has recently undergone major cancer surgery to remove a malignent tumor. Brian is in ward 19 at the Queen Elizabeth hospital Woolwich. He would love to see any of his old friends. We all wish him a speedy recovery and hope to be hearing such classics as "pukka meat pies", "Throw Another Log On The Fire" and "My Pony On My Boat" again soon at the Tudor Barn. |

Subject: RE: Brian Bruce-illness From: Girl Friday Date: 17 Jan 07 - 10:15 PM Hello Richard. There were complications. Brian had all gut removed .Everything gone. Now has stoma bag. The wound got infected and he was in over Christmas being flushed out. Flushing continued at home. District Nurse found some dead tissue that was due to be cut away today (Wed). Should have more news for you on Sunday, but thought he looked a lot better, when we saw him on Monday. Sue |
Subject: RE: Brian Bruce-illness From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Jan 07 - 02:12 AM Nasty! Wish him the best of luck. Now here comes the cynical lawyer bit. Just in case, he should make a will to make sure his guitar collection either goes to the right people or at the very least is knowledgeably disposed of so that the proper value is realised for those who inherit from him. I face a similar problem in due course with my Hagstroms and my PA rig and my vinyl records.... |
Subject: RE: Brian Bruce-illness From: Girl Friday Date: 18 Jan 07 - 03:53 PM Spoke to him today. Seems the nurse was over-cautious. If there was any necrotic tissue, it's gone. Surgeon says it's healing nicely, treated the visit as a follow up, so he doesn't need to go again 'til Feb. Poor bugger still can't sit on his bum for a while yet. Will give him your best when I speak again. See you on Sunday. |

It was so good to see him, and of course to be able to sing 'Spanish Ladies' which he requested. Keep on getting better Brian. John Barden |
