I just get blown away everytime I hear
'Brother Warrior' by Kate Wolf. Does anyone
happen to know the inspiration or story behind
this beautiful song?

This song is on her Poet's Heart "album"
It is possible that during this time some
of the songs she wrote were about Eric Bogle.

Brother Warrior was written/published in 1984.

Kate was a guest on Prairie Home Companion in
1984 and 1985 and Austin City Limits in 1985.

In 1986 she was diagnosed with leukemia
in April, and passed away in December, 1986.

It may or not be a metaphor for Eric Bogle (brother warrior, etc;) but it is, like all her material, a gem.

Hi Bill,

   I, for one, wouldn't mind if you wrote a bit more about her -
what got me interested in her music was Nance Griffith's version
of 'Great Divide' (OVOR); Kate was such an incredibly gifted composer and performer, but I really don't know that much about her...
