Subject: Sing4Wales From: Chris in Portland Date: 27 Jan 07 - 03:06 PM Really loving to sing along with the Welsh songs on YouTube - search on "Sing4Wales" - hoping that the effort produces more great music videos, and increases awareness for the needs of the Welsh community. Especially like Meinir's arrangement of Ar Hyd Y Nos - great camera shots so now I can work on it too. Diolch yn fawr to all those involved. Chris yn Portland |

Subject: RE: Sing4Wales From: Nigel Parsons Date: 28 Jan 07 - 08:12 AM Last week saw the funeral of My ex-Scout Leader (also co-member of our local church choir). Several past members of the choir returned for the day, and we gave him a rousing send-off with a service which included two Welsh hymns; Diadem (All Hail The Pow'r of Jesu's Name) and Rachie (I Bob Un Sydd Ffyddlon/Who is on the Lord's side) A pleasure to sing, if only the occasion were a better one CHEERS Nigel |
Subject: RE: Sing4Wales From: mg Date: 28 Jan 07 - 05:12 PM Diadem is probably the most awesome hymn there is, sung to the Welsh hymn. I have seen it (thankfully not heard it) to another tune. Let us know when the June event nears. mg |

I'll be working on Meinir's great arrangement of Ar Hyd Y Nos. If you're in the area, dewch mewn a dweud eich dwued. Chris yn Portland |
Subject: RE: Sing4Wales From: wysiwyg Date: 31 Jan 07 - 10:16 PM Did you see/hear these at YouTube??????!!!!! YouTube Search Result, from which you can click three different videos to play. Ms. Sian James sings and plays a BIG ole harp. The vid pix look all the same for the three entries, but there are three different songs. (It's too few!!!!) ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Sing4Wales From: wysiwyg Date: 31 Jan 07 - 10:25 PM Siân James is the most celebrated and modern of traditional singers in Wales. Four Albums on Sain Records, Caernarfon, one on BBC Worldwide, her first on her own label Bos Records, and a five part T.V. series by S4C (channel 4 in Wales) have been produced dedicated to her music. Two full length MP3s there and some RealAudio as well. ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Sing4Wales From: sian, west wales Date: 11 Dec 07 - 05:03 AM Cyduned y nefolaidd gor A llwythau dynolryw, (X2) I ganu'n llon a llafar lef Mai _cariad_ ydyw Duw. Eglura gwirioneddau'r Gair, A'i drugareddau gwiw, (X2) Ac angau Crist dros euog ddyn, Mai _cariad_ ydyw Duw. Fy enaid clwyfus, na lesgha, Mae modd i wella'th friw (X2); Mae achos da i ddweyd bob dydd Mai _cariad_ ydyw Duw. The heavenly choir joins together with the tribes of men To sing joyfully and shout That God is Love. It is made clear through the truths of the Word And its worthy compassion, And the passion of Crist for the sake of guilty man That God is Love. My wounded soul, be not weak, There is a way to heal your wound; There is good cause to say each day That God is Love. OK - not well translated (by me) and worth remembering that they are words 'of their time'; written by the Welsh poet known as "Gomer" (1773 - 1825). The _underscored_ word in the last line is the one that would be repeated. The tune isn't Welsh - Diadem was composed by James Ellor (1819-1899, born in Lancashire and died in USA. There would be mutinies at a North American cymanfa ganu if this hymn was left off the programme. But I must say that I don't DISlike the other 2 tunes which are connected with the words - Coronation, and Miles Lane. They're all in cyberhymnal.org. sian |
