Hi folks

We've got another couple of great evenings of live music at the Abbey Inn, Newlay Leeds, coming up.

On Saturday 3 Feb, the wonderful Kwame D are playing. If you've not seen them, do try and pop down. They're a duo who sing & play guitar & percussion. The style is a superb melting pot of roots, reggae, pop and soul. In my opinion, they're unique.

On Monday 5 Feb, we have another acoustic showcase (no p.a. or any of that malarky) featuring Gerry Mcneice, who should be well known to mudcatters. He's a top quality singer-songwriter with bags of stage presence. Also appearing are Richard & James from Mulberry Blue doing a rare duo set and Desperate Dan a super blues harmonica player.

Kwame's set will kick off at about 8:30 while the acoustic showcase will start at 8pm. Both events are free.

The Abbey is an excellent pub with a large choice of real ales from local breweries. Peter the landlord is keen to promote live music, and if you can come to either or both events, you're guaranteed a warm welcome.

Diolch

Wayne

Hey Katlaughing!

Thanks for the link! I didn't have the wherewithall to do that. We still use eight track cartridges in my neck of the woods!

If you do go on to the Abbey website you'll notice that the Monday gig is conspicuous by its absence. It's DEFINITELY ON, though.

Hope to see you there!

Hey Wayne

Thanks for the plug. Also, Kat & Jamie will be also coming along (hope that's OK). They are well good. Part of the new 'Britfolk' and they have nice comments on their website from Seth Lakeman and Karine Polwart. You won't be disappointed.

See ya Monday

Gerry :-)

Hi Gerry

You managed to get hold of Kat & James! Excellent! I tried & failed.

The night's looking better & better.

The Seth Lakeman quote says: "A fresh and promising young duo... right up on the crest of the new acoustic wave. Check these guys out......now!"

I reckon that's an old traditional quote he heard someone say in a pub when he was a kid, about Show of Hands. He just adapted it to refer to Kat and Jamie :-)

Not sure whether the Abbey is a traditional pub or an adapted one! We were up for a CAMRA award but Smooth Flow Oeperations put the kibosh on it.

In truth I like Seth Lakeman's music and if Kat & James are good enough for him they're good enough for us.

Check 'em out for yourselves at the Abbey Inn, Newlay, Leeds on Monday 5 Feb.

And don't forget the incomparable (and defiantly untraditional) Kwame D. are playing tonight (3 Feb). Abbey Inn, admission free, beer reasonable, plentiful and delicious (except the Tetleys, obviously).

Is the Abbey having a festival, this year?

Traditional? what's that then? Have I missed summat?

I also am a fan of Mr. Lakeman and have purposely avoided the whole is it, isn't it debate as mentioned on some other threads. Forums tend to wind me up a little bit anyway as it's usually self-righteous twits with little knowledge and too much free time who frequent and pontificate about subjects they know little of. We should be out there making music and having fun.

And what fun it will be.

A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Gerry :-)

Well said, Gerry! I was a bit annoyed that someone seemed to be hijacking this thread for another (dreary) Seth bashing session so I put in a facetious reply. Dumb, I know.

We had a fab time with Kwame D. last night and it'll be equally good on Monday!

Yes, Karla, we're having another festival. It'll be the 20th-22nd July. We've booked an excellent selection of guests (including Gerry McNeice, there'll be 40 real ales, and of course, the music will all be free. One change we're able to offer this year is camping (about 2 minutes walk from the pub) at £5 per person, for the weekend.
