It was written by Charles Matthews if that helps at all. Quick look and doidn't find lyrics anywhere. It is available on many CDs however. Gotta go. Will look later.

THE DEVIL AND HIS OLD SUITCASE
(songwriter??)

Who’s that coming down that lonesome road
Who’s that a tottin’ such a heavy load
Who’s that wearing such an awful face
It must be the devil and his ole suitcase

Who’s that standing at my front door
Who’s that knocking like he did before
Who’s that saying I likes your place
It must be the devil and his ole suitcase

The blues he gives you will only get you down
When he gets you, he’ll turn your happy hours upside down

Who’s that leaving from my front door
Who’s that leaving like he did before
Who’s that saying I hates that Grace
It must be the devil and his ole suitcase

The blues he gives you will only get you down
When he gets you, he’ll turn your happy hours upside down

Who’s that leaving from my front door
Who’s that leaving like he did before
Who’s that saying I hates that Grace
It must be the devil and his ole suitcase

It must be the devil and his ole suitcase

Hi, Craig - where'd you get this from? Who's the songwriter?

We try to document sources of lyrics as best we can.

The lyrics match this recording by the Dixie Echoes (click) almost perfectly.

This Discogs release (click) attributes the song to Charles R. Matthews. For their part, the Dixie Echoes attribute it as "P.D." (link).

One small note, it should be "toting" in the first line rather than "totting"
