If there are any Mudcatters over here besides me from the Louisiana area, who'd be interested in a gathering? We could make it at an already planned festival, or just have one of our own at a civic center somewhere! I think it'd be great for some of the ones who can't make that international trip to NI or Scotland if we had one at home (for those in the South, anyway).

If anyone's interested, or has a place in mind, say so here.

I was thinking we could perhaps have our own little gathering at the Celtic Festival in October here in Lake Charles, or the Cajun Festival in June or July. It wouldn't cost as much as renting the place out for our own, and I know the guy who hosts the Celtic festival; he'd be more than glad to let us set up in the lobby, or an unused area of the festival.

I got the idea for a Southern gathering literally about five minutes ago when I realized how impossible it might be for some of us to make those trips.

Suggestions welcome and encouraged.

I would be interested, but I'm a self-employed artist and I'm off trying to sell pottery at festivals of the arts & crafts variety about 25 weekends out of the year. There's not much happening on that front in the summer, though, so something in July might be workable.

Would you allow an old Mississippi boy (well, I was about 50 years ago) to participate? I was almost a Louisianian having grown up about 7 miles from the state line.

Get in touch with Bobert (W. Vga) and khandu (Mississippi) if you can -- they're pure-dee.

Hi,
Lousianians,
is anybody aware of an english/french version of the bull frog blues??

I've got the english version but I'm looking for this special cajun alternative. A friend of mine from NH told me about this, which "nobody can understand". Please think about it and tell me.

Manfred from Germany (indeed!)

Leadbelly:

It's probably not even sung in French. A lot of the time, the Cajun accent is just so heavy, you can't understand it. I've run into people with those kinds of accents! Although, I guess you could type in the lyrics into a French translator, but you'd get subject-verb agreement a little off with those.

I, personally, don't know anyone who speaks Cajun French. So I really couldn't help if you need it specifically in Cajun style French. Best bet is to sing so fast and so slurred, everyone THINKS it's French. ;)

You could always swing on over to Texas. In Arlington, between Dallas and Fort Worth, there is a large Scottish festival every summer. This year it is June 1-3. Jed Marum is a Mudcatter who regularly performs there and others visit. One of these years I'll get to it (I only work at the campus where the thing takes place. Duh.)

I might try to make it. I know a few guys in Texas. Murder the Stout and Blaggards are all good friends of mine.
