Sorry we missed it, but were due to be MCing a life celebration at Fab Club. In the end I stayed home because I felt poorly, but here's to the next one, and see you all at Good Intent.

A great afternoon. Thanks to all of those who came; it was a really good turnout. As Growler mentioned, it was especially moving to hear Jim's Normandy song on Remembrance Day.

Here's to the next one at The Tudeley Oak. In the meantime, don't forget the Good Intent Wassail on the 22nd and 23rd of December.

Sorry I didn't make it but Jan is laid up with either a bad cold, or the 'Flu, so I stayed here at home. Glad to hear that Jen was there and hope she is well on the mend. Here's to the next one.

Actually, Tonbridge is a sod of a place to get to from here, and those particular outskirts of it the worst of all.

Thanks for the info re children. The rules are often a bit quirky. Tonbridge Wetherspoons once had (may still have) three different sets of rules all displayed at the same time.

Would love to come but it now appears that I have an unavoidable appointment with B&Q, a place I was merely hoping to pass en route for the Oak!

It's tomorrow and as they are also serve food, children can be admitted as long as they eat. As all the children I have met, could eat you out of house and home, this shouldent be a problem

We're going to miss it. Bu**er! (Shiny Bum Singers - Julianne and Floyd the roadie) are up in Durham still catching up with relatives so we won't get down in time. The Good Intent in September was great so we were hoping to catch up with you all again at Tonbridge. We'll be back down there by the end of the week.

Cheers

"Not only that, them there 'Dutchies' sailed up the Medway and gave it what for a few centuries back!!!!".......

Led no doubt by the famous Dutch Admiral Hertz Van Rental (apols to Doug Hudson).

Thanks very much for that piece of Historic info John. I shall look up me history re those events. I shall remind the Dutchies on the ship along side Hms Belfast of this dastardly action in the drink up on board after the service.(only jokiing) Some Dutchies have shore leave so we might take a few in tow to the Oak with us have a few Dutchie shanties

(I imagine Fort Amhurst and all the little Medway forts were constucted in haste afterwards in order to prevent such attacks reocuring in fuiture?

Sunday.
I have spoken to the Chief Yeoman and he said that it is ok to come on board ship on Sunday 11th October for the rememberence day service, but he has stressed that due to incresed numbers of other guests and a dutch naval vessel alongside Belfast and its crew in attendence me and my guests may have to go up to 3 deck and view the proceedings from the platform deck by x turret(Aft 6inch gun) Bloody par-larva. You would think theyre give me the grace to be on the quarter deck like I have for the last 7 years. Send the dutch boys up aloft I say?

I think it may appeal more to Jim Radford but I guess he meets his own crewe for rememberence day but the offer stands I will speak to you woodsie more about it on Wednesday for I must book me guests on board with the Cheif Yeoman at least a week in advance. In the mean time i will check for engineering works and train times to Tonbridge so we can time our stay on ship to our time in getting to The Oak.

Alturnatly to the above I can get guests on board the HMS Belfast(MAX 3)so we could all attend the on board service.Hit the ward room afterwards for a couple of tots of Nelsons blood and then get underway to the Oak? There,s only one problem with this and that is tearing oneself away from the drink up on board ship. If this appeals then please let me know so I can make the nessessary arrangement.

It only lasts 45mins so so perhaps share cab coming back

Folk At The Oak is back again!

John, the landlord, is very supportive of this event and would like to see it continue (as would I), so it'd be good to see as many of you as possible on Sunday, 11th November at The Tudeley Oak in Tudeley, near Tonbridge. We'll start at midday and carry on till about five; or even later, who knows? It'll be hosted by Ruff 'n' Reddy.

I don't think it'll be combined with a beer festival this time but there'll still be plenty of good beer. The last time I was in there, he had Harvey's, Larkin's and one other, the name of which escapes me.

To save you scrolling up, the postcode is TN11 0NT.

Put it in your diaries!

Thanks to everyone for coming on Sunday; it was a great afternoon. The landlord is keen to have us back and has suggested September. We'll obviously try to avoid clashes with other events if possible.

And don't forget the next session hosted by Ruff 'n' Reddy: this coming Sunday (27th) at the Good Intent in Rochester, starting at middayish, and featuring special guests, The Shiny Bum Singers from Australia (more information on other threads).

As long as it's not the weekend of the Deal Maritime (Usually 3rd weekend in September) which is probably 14th, 15th and 16th - nor the same time as the Knockholt September bash - which I hope is the previous weekend (but that needs confirming), nor the weekend before that which is Fylde Folk Festival - then fine. Oh what a busy life!!!
