Funny how they always manage to get out of Vermont just about the time the winter is seeming awfully long....

Steve co-wrote wrote the song Darcy Farrow, along with
Tom Campbell. it is a sad and wonderful story. i heard
it was written for zan entry into an old songs contest,
and when the judges awarded it the prize, they thought
it was an authentic old time song, not knowing that it
had been recently composed.

These two musicians also have recorded with Michael Smith
and Anne Hills -- when they are in that group they are
called the Four Told http://www.compassrosemusic.com/fourtold.html

I met Steve back in the mid-60s (when his hair was still dark) when he was working the university coffee house circuit. He was - even then - a great performer and guitarist and very approachable. He said that he and Tom Campbell had written the song Darcy Farrow as an assignment for one of their folklore classes. Actually, they passed the song off to their professors as a "collected" song and it was accepted as such.

When Ian & Sylvia recorded the song, Steve and Tom had to 'fess up that they had composed the song and not collected it.

He will be in Louisville, KY in July and I plan to go see him then.

Louise
