Sessions in Newcastle

Thinking about going up to the Baltic in Gateshead week after next.

Previously only have passed through Newcastle on way to Edinburgh but looking at staying in a hostel for either Wed 7th or Thurs 8th March

Can any one recomend any sessions -   I would prefer mainly tunes ( Irish, Scots. Northumberland ?) which I can sit and diddle to but where they might welcome the odd song.

The Cumberland Arms is one of the best known.

Looks great scrump - music and real ale.   Do you know how easy it is to get to from the city centre as I assume that's where I will find a cheap hostel

Newcastle YHA isn't far from the Cumberland and walkable from the city centre.

Forgot to mention earlier: The Black Bull in Bridge St, Blaydon has sessions too, but I can't remember what day(s) they're on - anyone know?
