Subject: RE: LYRIC REQUEST AND INFO From: DonMeixner Date: 25 Mar 99 - 09:14 PM Rita, I'm sitting here with the name on the tip of my tongue. The performer is a British Blues Icon of the same stripe as John Mayall. I can even picture the album photo. A profile of a bearded gent in a cricket jacket, ascot, and a panama hat. He may even have a monocle in his eye. " I was traveling north..... I heard an American Negro playing a music he call Boogee Woogee....." RATS! I'll wake up in the middle of the night now with this answer. Sorry. Don |
Subject: RE: LYRIC REQUEST AND INFO From: Barbara Date: 25 Mar 99 - 10:01 PM Hi, Gang, check out this old thread and see if this is the song http://www.deltablues.com/thread.CFM?threadID=7565 No words but some suggestions about singers, including Elton John and Rod Stewart, also first recorded by Baldry. Actually "Don't call it Boojie-Woojie" or "The King of R&R" Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: LYRIC REQUEST AND INFO From: Bill Thomas Date: 25 Mar 99 - 10:04 PM Sounds like it might be "Don't try to lay no boogie-woogie on the King of Rock and Roll" The recording I heard had Long John Baldry starting off with a long, spoken story about getting called before a rural English judge of some sort and being accused of playing boojie-woojie music. |
Subject: RE: LYRIC REQUEST AND INFO From: DonMeixner Date: 26 Mar 99 - 12:27 AM THATS IT! Long John Baldry. I had the John part right in my memory but Baldry was lost.

Subject: Lyr Add: DON'T TRY TO LAY NO BOOGIE-WOOGIE ON ... From: Peace Date: 14 May 05 - 09:04 PM The original version was done by Gator Creek, on their one and only album in 1970; I haven't been able to find any MP3's of this. It was covered by Crow on their album "Mosaic" (also on a 45 on the Amaret label) and by Long John Baldry on "It Ain't Easy". Crow's version of the lyric was as follows: Don't you tell me n-n-n-no lies woman 'cause all you know I've told Don't sell me no alibi sister 'cause all you've got I've sold You better leave that midnight sneakin' to the one who worked it out I don't wanna hear no back talk speakin' go on and shut yer mouth And everything's gonna work out tight if you act like you been told So don't try to lay no boogie woogie on the king of rock and roll. Don't you feed me no TV dinners when you know I'm used to steak I don't need no rank beginners when it's time to shake that shake You better pull your Thing together, reach in and dust it out And if ya feel that yer ass can't dig it then I guess you know the route It ain't a matter of pork 'n beans gonna justify your soul Just don't try to lay no boogie woogie on the king of rock and roll. You weren't alive when I started to drive, so don't put none on me You didn't arrive 'til late '45 but your head's in '53. You got what it takes to keep the heads a-spinnin' down by the old rim shack And you come across just like a fool grinnin' in the back of a red Cadillac. You can't come across the [inaudible] bridge until you pay the toll So don't try to lay no boogie woogie on the king of rock and roll. That is from another discussion board located at Prentiss Riddle: Music: Don't try to lay no boogie woogie Google it if you wish. |
Subject: RE: LYRIC REQUEST AND INFO From: Peace Date: 14 May 05 - 09:08 PM Meant to say, "Google it if you wish to see the rest." Sorry 'bout that. |

Subject: RE: Req: Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie... From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 16 May 05 - 07:48 AM The version with the narration is by Long John Baldry, guaranteed, Rita. He lives in Vancouver these days, is just getting over a bit of illness and will be touring again in September. http://www.longjohnbaldry.com/ Barbara mentioned Rod Stewart and Elton John who actually co-produced the "It Ain't Easy" album. Along with that "boogie-woogie" thing, you (and all youse bozos) absolutely owe it to yourselves to seek out his (& Kathi McDonald's) take on "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" (from the "Baldry's Out" album). Trust me on this. |
