Hi,

Has anyone been to this festival? Me and a couple of mates (we sing a number of shanties anyway) are planning to go down there this year for some entertainment and a beer or two.

Will there be any opportunity for the public to do some singing in a pub or two, or is it just the booked guests doing this and any public participation (other than joining in on the choruses) frowned upon? Anyone know whether there is an 'open mike' thing going on down there when the festival is on?

Cheers

Steve.

It's usually a good sing as well as some spots in various places. Suggest you contact Roger Bryant. Become a meber and then pm me for his details.

Ruler, My name is Mick I am in The Royal Marine Shanty Crew. We performed at The Falmouth Shanty Festival last year and are doing the same this year. We had a brilliant time. Not sure about sing a rounds/ open mike sessions. In the pub on the harbour front, there was a few sessions. I am sure the organizers would not mind a few sessions in between booked guests. If you go this year make yourself known to me. Within the next couple of weeks we are changing our groups name to "Walton On The Naze Shanty".

          Cheers Mick.

Regarding Steve's submission above; will there be opportunities for the public to do some singing.

We are also one of the acts booked there this year and although I haven't been to the festival before, one of the organisers tells me there are some pub sessions where the acts are just asked to pop in and out of, so I'm guessing that some of the pub sessions will be mixed, which always works well at other festivals.

We were given the nod about this festival by Hanging Johnny who told us it was a cracking festival, so get you accommodation booked and bring your singing heads!

Hi' Linda,

We did break up for a couple of years but this year will be our third season back, with Mark, Vin and George being the other reprobates.

The pull of the maritime festivals was just too much. They really are good fun and I would encourage anyone who enjoys an occaisional glass and a good sing song to get themselves down to Falmouth in June, open your lungs up and give it a try.

Alan

Hi Steve

I'm a member of Falmouth Shout (the group organising the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival). Public joining in the singing is for the most part, very much encouraged! It's part of the reason we do it - some of the groups do sing some more quiet numbers, and appreciate the audience listening, but for the most part, we want everyone, performers and the public to enjoy the whole experience.

As you've seen from Mick's comment (Royal Marine Shanty Crew) - they (as did all the other groups) all had a great time, and in testament to this, all are coming back this year. We are also looking forward to welcoming other new groups such as yourselves with Landlocked.

We are in the process of arranging the "programme", i.e. which group is singing when and where and hope to include more venues this year throughout the town, and on quays/events square etc (weather permitting), but we are also trying to arrange more group interaction (singing-wise!!) so that we can have a chance to sing/drink/enjoy festival together.

Look forward to seeing you in June.

Ann

I just want to say a huge thank-you to the organizers of last week- ends Falmouth Shanty Festival. Yet again a fine job done by all despite the weather being showery. I hope that the money raised in aid of the Falmouth Lifeboat is as much if not more than last year. Looking forward to next years festival.

THANKS AGAIN, Mick (The Naze Shanty Crew).

I would like to echo Mick's sentiments.

We had a really excellent time, as first-time festival goers, and recommend the festival to all. Would like to thank the organisers of the festival for letting us do a fill-in spot between acts, and the Seven Stars pub for letting us do their collecting for the lifeboat appeal. Hope we helped to raise something for the lifeboats.

Good to put a face to a name as well, Mick.

We are looking forward to coming next year.

Steve (the Two Anchors).

Well Steve what can I say except nice kilt. Seriously very nice to see you all there. To see people like yourselves enjoying themselves and collecting money for a worthy cause is very heart warming. Glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you at future festivals and at Falmouth next year.

ALL the Best to you and your mates and THANKS.

                                 Cheers Mick.

P.S. Your singing wasnt bad either.
