Here is a man trying his best but having to compete with the wretched TV. in the background ,Why does he even bother ?
I know we have discussed this in great depth before with a tread I started , but this is what I was on about.
Caution YouTube video , slow loading for dial-up connection

Yes, why does he do it......... For the love of playing and singing. I had the same experience once and when I realized the competition wasen't going to go away and I had committed mysel to this paying gig, I mentally tuned out the t.v. and the audience and sang for myself. Selfish you say? Maybe but I had a great time and got great comments by some in the audience who appreciated me going on.

A word to the folks who may read this thread and plan to book somewhere for a gig. Ask the owner about the t.v. thing as well as other audio equipment. Visit the place before you ask to be booked.
And Shaneo the fellow is very good. I would go listen to him if he could be heard.

Yes Beer , he is good , and as a group we also sit back and play for ourselves sometimes , When you sing for yourself you get a chance to do the not so familiar songs that you would not normally play , like a practice session . But when we play for money we have to play all the ,,[dare I say it ?] tourist songs.
As a respectful gesture to the singer , the TV. should be turned OFF.

Can someone describe the venue? large or small bar? Restaurant? Legion hall?

I've actually never been in a place that had live music and kept the TV audio on (saw TV left on without sound at sports bar once).

It could be worse: I was once booked into a pub & had to stand in the darts playing area having been assured that there wouldn't be a game on that night. But of course the customers had other ideas - before I'd even started I hasten to add. I left whilst still intact!

I always found that playing in Legions the best venues to play. Sure they drink and get loud but they love the music and it is a safe place to play. In most Legions they watch t.v. and have been asked if I mind if the t.v. is left on so the folks can watch the hockey game. I always said no problem, just turn the sound down and they do so.
Pubs/Bars are a bit different than a Legion so I say again that the musician should really check the place out before hand.

One of the many reasons why I do not feel the urge to go out and seek a new series of gigs in the Irish pubs...

Looks like a matinee gig in a sports bar. Could be anywhere. The young man does an excellent job of the song and doesn't seem phased at all. He's selling beer and singing to those who will listen. There's a very nice looking young lady, heads off to the washroom and fortunately, makes it back before the end of the song. I enjoyed that.
Excellent voice in a well chosen key.
I'll buy it and I'll give it five!

Yes, another telescreen or two (preferably showing different channels and turned up loud) and, perhaps, some piped rock music would have made the listening experience even better, wouldn't it? You could even fit a plate juggler between the singer and the screen in case the audience got bored with the other distractions!
