Subject: Contact for permission? Flower of Scot. From: GUEST,Val Date: 01 Mar 07 - 06:24 PM I am trying to find out whom to contact for permission to perform/arrange/publish and possibly record "Flower of Scotland" by the late Roy Williamson. I have already sent an email to info@corries.com , which as I understand it is the official web site for The Corries. I know that this song is frequently performed in the general public, and is considered the defacto if unofficial Scottish National Anthem. All that notwithstanding, unless there is some documented release from the copyright holder (Mr. Williamson's estate, Ronnie Brown, or ??) I do not feel it is proper |
Subject: RE: Contact for permission? Flower of Scot. From: GUEST,Val Date: 01 Mar 07 - 06:32 PM [blasted finger-slip & computer that does what it's told rather than what I wanted...] To continue... ...unless there is some documented release from the copyright holder, I do not feel it is proper to publish an arrangment (even though "publishing" in this case would be limited to a club newsletter). So - does anybody know where I could find: 1. the current contact information for whomever holds the copyright to Flower of Scotland, or 2. where to find a copy of an official release or proclamation of public-use rights (if any such document exists)? Not looking for a list of all the people/places/etc where the song has been peformed without any legal consequence. I understand it is very popular and has been widely adopted. But the management of the club insists that there be NO question of copyright issues for any songs distributed through club channels. I'm still hoping the message to The Corries web site will bring a response so a dialog can be opened, however I figured I'd try here as well. Thank you in advance Val |
Subject: RE: Contact for permission? Flower of Scot. From: GUEST,Val Date: 01 Mar 07 - 06:34 PM PS - to be clear, I am looking for copyright contact for THE SONG ITSELF, not any particular arrangement, performance, or printed sheet music. Thanks Val |
Subject: RE: Contact for permission? Flower of Scot. From: Jim Lad Date: 01 Mar 07 - 07:59 PM Val: I'd have to suggest the "Footstompin" site for this one. There's probably half a dozen Roy Williamson fans with their fingers on the button, just waiting for the question. Footstompin' |

Subject: RE: Contact for permission? Flower of Scot. From: GUEST,Bathos Date: 03 Mar 07 - 10:02 AM Is the last line of this song, "Tae think again" one of the worst examples of anticlimax ever? |
Subject: RE: Contact for permission? Flower of Scot. From: Jim Lad Date: 03 Mar 07 - 11:38 AM A very common response, in Scotland is to tell your opponent to think again. Another would be "Well if that's what you think, you've got another think coming". Anticlimactic would have been... "And sent him homewards, to listen to the merry strains of BOY GEORGE" or some other English hero but it wouldn't fit. Having said that; I'm sure you'll know a lot more about "Anticlimax" than I ever could. I will thus defer to you in all such matters. Good Morning All! Cheers Jim |
