Subject: Upton Festival 2007 From: GUEST,Janet Geen Date: 02 Mar 07 - 04:13 PM We're very much looking forward to Upton Festival this year but anyone know exactly what is happening? No sign of any tickets yet. We always have a really good time, sitting in pubs playing music, seeing old (sometimes very old!) friends and joining in everything else. Oh, and great fish and chips. |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: My guru always said Date: 02 Mar 07 - 05:10 PM Looked on the web-site only yesterday & nothing on the ticket page. Well, we'll turn up anyway, Upton's pretty special :-) |

Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Sue the Borderer Date: 03 Mar 07 - 09:01 AM And you can come along and dance or play with 'Herbaceous Border' under the bridge on Saturday and Sunday. This will be immediately after the 'ceilidh under the bridge' finishes, which I think is usually about 6 o'clock. The musicians do obviously need to be able to play (though nothing complicated) but it doesn't matter if people who dance are experienced or have never 'morrissed' before. This year the Festival is 4-7th May, so doesn't coincide with May Day (so Herbaceous Border won't be dancing under the bridge at dawn!) There is a flier out - full weekend ticket bought in advance is £48 plus £10 camping. There are concessions. (PM me if you want to go on Herbaceous Border's mailing list and hear about where else you could come and dance or play with us.) Sue |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 03 Mar 07 - 12:55 PM And rumour has it that "Housewives' Choice" might be playing on Saturday.. Not that it's got anything to do with me, you understand! Ralph |

Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Sue the Borderer Date: 25 Apr 07 - 06:33 PM Good idea Sal. I was just thinking of doing the same. I'm still inviting (begging?!) some musicians to come and play for 'Herbaceous Border' under the bridge. I think it's in the programme as 6-7.30pm Sat and Sun. Be great if people were there just before 6 but we may finish before 7.30. (And anyone who wants to dance is very welcome too) Is the singing going to be in the Lion as usual? Sue |

Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Polly Squeezebox Date: 29 Apr 07 - 05:55 PM We think of you often Verna - and Ray too. You'll still be sadly missed at Upton, not least by Jack who has somehow managed to become responsible for not only the campsite - but organising all the stewards as well! Why do I get this deja vue feeling? Looking forward to seeing friends old and new at Upton next weekend - and will raise a glass to absent friends too. Polly |

Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: GUEST,dame pattie smith EPNS Date: 01 May 07 - 01:49 PM Hello everyone from sunny Bourton on the water. I`m on my holidays, walking with about 50 other people. It`s wonderful!! I will see you all at Upton on Sunday. I`m mc ing the Sun afternoon concert and Llantrisant Folk club is doing the Sat night and the Battle of the clubs on the Sunday night. Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Richard Atkins Date: 01 May 07 - 07:55 PM Verna I remember yours and Rays dedication to this one. Going there this year to see. Last years Non Upton was brill ! Too pricey this year though. |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: 8_Pints Date: 01 May 07 - 09:50 PM Shellbacks also performing! See you there! Bob vG |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: John J Date: 02 May 07 - 03:12 AM Is there much fringe stuff going on at Upton? We're looking at coming down to have a bit of a sing & play. Thanks, John |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Snuffy Date: 02 May 07 - 04:16 AM Always lots of fringe at Upton, John - just about every pub has sessions or singing. Come and join us. |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: John J Date: 02 May 07 - 04:45 AM Right - I just need to find somewhere to camp now! Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, John |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Mick Tems Date: 02 May 07 - 07:47 AM Olly and I will be there, and so will Llantrisant Folk Club. But it's impossible for us to do camping, and all the Upton hotels charge the earth to stay for a night. Do any mudcatters and Upton regulars know of a hotel/boarding house where we could stay, which isn't too pricey? |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Mick Tems Date: 03 May 07 - 03:53 AM I forgot to say - here's remembering you in a pint, Verna and Ray. We love West Cork, and it's not too far from Schull to Coomhola. We must meet up some time. |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Mr Red Date: 03 May 07 - 08:02 AM There is camping - usually only for ticket holders. There is a field nearby - not sure if and on what basis. The old loop of road at the entrance to the camp site gets a few fringies - tarmac only. PM me today & I might have other info. I will try to log in tonight but I will be touristing in sunny Tamworth (someone has to). I will arrive lateish Fri night so plots will be whats left. Last year was ideal ceilidhs and fringe - but that's my thing - concerts I can live without, costs bear this out. |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: 8_Pints Date: 07 May 07 - 11:55 AM Just returned after our first expedition with 8 month old chocolate Labrador called 'Monty'. Met Mrs Lemon and Hills and were invited to sing on the "Conway Castle" as it cruised down the Severn. Looking forward to next year already! Bob & Sue vG |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Mr Red Date: 08 May 07 - 07:44 AM I will be there This year had it's usual crop of details that need tidying-up but if you want perfection - don't come to Upton. It is laid back and friendly and the purturbations are as nothing compared with the enormaity of the task of organising a festival. I go to relax - and that they get right. And say hello to the hills for me whenever you are on them. They were my friends in the darkest hours of marriage. And even friendlier during the blinding light that was the ensuing freedom! Oh the memories.............. |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Splott Man Date: 08 May 07 - 11:51 AM Thanks to everyone who came to the Llantrisant Folk Club at Upton on Saturday night at the Social, and again to those who came to the Battle of the Clubs on Sunday night which became a Llantrisant only event by default, unfortunately, due to the organiser from Wooden horse FC dbeing taken ill. We wish you a speedy recovery (I'm sorry, I don't know your name). We had 2 superb nights! |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: neardura Date: 08 May 07 - 03:40 PM Hi to Verna and Ray. We do think of you often (especially when we need the answer to a problem). |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: neardura Date: 08 May 07 - 03:42 PM To Mr Red. We are doing our best with the organisation and it will get better. If anyone has comments suggestions etc, I will pass them on to the committe. |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Richard Atkins Date: 08 May 07 - 08:08 PM To Bev and Cris despite roumors ! Pete Carlile passed on today. All support to Lis and Peters Mum now ! |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: the lemonade lady Date: 09 May 07 - 09:52 PM I'm so sorry to hear this news. Lots of love and support from me to Liz and Peter's Mum from me. Sal |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: My guru always said Date: 10 May 07 - 06:15 AM Please see separate thread for Obit: Peter Carlisle, it would be lovely if people could put messages of support and sympathy there, so it could be printed out for Liz and Barbara and the family to read. I've put some information there about the funeral too. Wonderful to see so many friends at Upton, wonderful weekend despite people nipping to hospital!! Have to say that the Boathouse is a fantastic venue for a Singaround, well done to the organisers for sorting that and all their hard work in putting on this year's festival. Keep up the good work & may it continue to flourish! We missed you Ray & Verna, but we're also dead jealous of your new home & lifestyle. See you one day soon I hope! |
Subject: RE: Upton Festival 2007 From: Eye Lander Date: 15 May 07 - 08:09 AM Hello All Back home on the Island after a week of Festival(l)ing. I would like to say a big big thank you to those who helped when Andy was unwell last Saturday. Thanks to those who gave phone numbers just in case, those who sent best wishes, those who were wary of what they drank incase we needed collecting, Hilary for organising our collection; Jed for collecting us. the St John's Ambulance for their care. A special thanks to Kathy Brent of Winterbourne Down Morris, who gave up a lot of her festival time to come to the hospital with us. Infact I think she was only there for the Saturday which makes it even worse! What a lovely lady. Andy did his treadmill test at Worcester hospital on Tuesday with no after effects thank goodness. More tests to follow. Thanks again to all Jillie and Andy |
