Has anyone seen this young Welsh guitarist? Gareth Pearson myspace he can be seen and heard here along with the great Tommy Emmanuel

Yep, I saw this young man supporting Tommy Emmanuel at Huntington Hall Worcester.
He's only been playing for 4 years and was inspired by attending a TE gig. Not only is he is a superb picker but also a fine entertainer with an excellent stage presence. He has learned well from his mentor.

I've seen him a few times recently and there is no doubting his talent. My only concern is his material - I hope he broadens his repertoire from mainly Chet Atkins stuff. I'd prefer him to become the first Gareth Pearson, not the second Tommy Emmanuel.

I have seen Gareth a few times, he has also been a guest at our folk club. I felt humble at the end of the night when he thanked me for a good job on the sound desk. He's that good all you have to do is make sure everybody hears him, and he well worth listening to.

He's a great lad with loads of talent and energy. Folk should give the lad a break, he's at a point in his playing most of us will never come close to, he has nothing to hold him back.

Gareth Pearson is excellent! Llantrisant Folk Club gave him a gig under their Showcase series, and I kid you not - we were elated, bedazzled, inspired by his masterful acoustic playing. I mean, who else could include a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Day Tripper in there? Gareth comes from Gower, and he means to go a long, long way. In the future, St David's Hall will book Martin Simpson coupled Gareth P!

Gareth is from Cwmbran, not the Gower.
Also, he has already played St Davids Hall with Ray Davies back in 2005.

The guy you saw in Llantrisant was probably John Dignam. He is from Gower...and did a showcase not that long ago. Gareth Pearson is absolutely amazing!!! Seen him a few times now. Love his stuff.

I have listened to his soundclips and watched the videos, and would agree, an amazing player, what will be be like in ten years time ?

I would tend to agree with the GUEST above, I hope he doesn't become fixated on being the next Tommy Emmanuel, hopefully he will listen to and learn from the work of Martin Simpson and Tony MacManus for example, so that his musical horizons keep expanding.

That said, I have never seen him live, although I look forward to seeing him play one of these days, and maybe he is in fact a lot more versatile on stage than these soundclips show.

A very exciting prospect ...

I saw him on the Coldham Commons Stage at Cambridge Folk Festival last year, and he took the place apart. Overheard the guy who was in charge of the stage said he has never seen a reaction to an act like it in all his years at Coldham.

Highly recommended. He does support Tommy but also goes out on his own. Go and see him when he's next in your area.

Saw him at Pocklington Arts Centre with Tommy Emmanuel last year. Very fine player. My son met him at Cambridge Folk festival last year and he's a nice guy
