OK, I see another wave of spam messages is hitting, so won't be surprised if the Cat goes down again for a while... best of luck, Max!

It was killed off almost before it was mentioned. Great clone work!

I make a lot of use of the "posts since your last visit" page - and I can tell you from watching; there are probably a couple dozen spam posts a day that are deleted almost intantaneously.

Is that why occasional I post only to find it has disappeared?
This is NOT a complaint against anyone at MC

probably not unless you tend to post as a random guest with posts filled with links to porn sites or advertising spots.

Or perhaps you were part of a thread that was deleted.

We haven't figured out why posts occasionally disappear upon posting, but it sure is frustrating. It always seems to happen to me when I'm typing something particularly profound.

When I'm really on top of things, I remember to type my stuff on a word processor, spellcheck so I don't look foolish, and copy-paste into Mudcat. Then, if the message gets lost, it's no big deal. I wish I'd remember to do that more often.

Do like Joe does or, ALWAYS highlight and copy before you hit the submit! I have been doing it for at least five years. of course, nothing profound.

I'm a relative newcomer to the Mudcat and
I have never seen anything like what I see
upstairs in the music-thread section.
There must be a dozen threads with different titles
and fishy titles at that:
I'm not opening a single one of them
as I suspect someone has spammed Mudcat.

I would not even know the technique for doing this
should there be a way to post all dozen threads simultaneously,
somebody knows more than I do in more respects than one.

Nice mess for Joe Offer to clean up . . .

Someone's posted a ridiculous number of things about pop lyrics. Those posts are still there.

I sent a note asking what they're up to - and am watching. The group is apparently from the 60s, we'll have to see what the music moderation folks choose to do - possibly merge these into one post.

I was wondering, @folk1e - I posted a start to a possible alternative thread called something like "This hideous war" when one of the threads in BS became unopenable, and it disappeared; there was nothing particularly offensive about it; I was musing in this post that possibly the biblical/Torah injunction "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth", which I've long regarded as vengeful, was actually an instruction to limit revenge to the level of the original offence. So that killing 8,000 people in revenge for the killing of 1,400 people is bringing revenge to extremity.

That thread is in good standing, it's Mudcat that's a little bit broken right now. ---mudelf

Well, I cleared up the pop lyrics requests. I usually combine such things into a single thread. I don't want to make people mad at us. We don't mind occasional pop lyrics requests, but don't want to be flooded with them.

Nothing was closed of a science nature. The only things closed recently were all of the requests for individual pop songs by a guest, and those were merged into one. If you think a science thread has disappeared it was more likely merged with something else. In which case, do a search on your posts and follow the one you think is right and find out what thread it is in now.

Max doesn't seem to have been able to repair all of the broken threads.

I expect the loss is permanent owing to the virtual impossibility of correcting a small bit of code hidden in the hundreds of thousands of lines.

this was closed by a typical hooligan attack

The two Threads hacked and killed are the most political. ONE WAS ANTI FASCIST and the other was anti Israel. THE MOTIVATION OF THE HACKER has not been determined but it does seem right wing adjacent. An inside job is as likely as 'the husband did it'.
