UK. towpath song and dance

Many folk will be spending part of the summer on the canal.
Can we suggest dance clubs, music sessions, singarounds that are within walking distance of a mooring?

Scottish dancing every week in Linlithgow:

and a session on the third Sunday of the month:

You need to get to the Union Canal first, of course...

Anything on the Crinan Canal?

The Plough , at Long Wittenham, has a folk-club on Wednesdays, and its own moorings at bottom of long terrace / camping field. It is a short way up the weirstream of Clifton Lock, on the Thames near Abingdon. If you found youself on the Thames in Wallingford, there are three sessions a month in "Bunkfest " pubs ---The first Thursday, in the "Coach & Horses," on the "Kinecroft " , and the third Tuesday and Sunday in the "Cross Keys ", opposite the "Kinecroft" ( village green ). All the Wallingford sessions are run / hosted by Bill McKinnon.

Beverley East Yorkshire there are moorings by the lock and more at the beginning of the beck. The Foresters pub by the start of the beck has the 'noth the white horse folk club' every Monday. A 10 minute walk into Beverley and there are regular sessions Sundays at Sun Inn / Hodgesons / Monks Walk, Tuesdays at Monks Walk, Fridays at The Tiger (at the Keldgate end of Lairgate. The Tiger sometimes has a folk act booked Saturdays too.

Leadfingers,

I guess you'll be well away from Middlewich by May 9th when the Boar's Head (a minute or so walk from the town wharf) presents Middlewich Open Mike. If not, you'll be very welcome, as will everyone else of course.

There's also Live & Local's session night at the same pub on the second Saturday in the month, so that means May's session will be on the 12th by my reckoning. Looks like we missed you again.

However, both these events occur every month of the year on the days stated so we'd love it if everyone came along.

Neither of these events, by the way, have any connection with Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival and its organisers.

The Live & Local weekend, held at the BH over the weekend of March 10th - 12th raised £3000 for the new MacMillan Cancer Care Unit at Leighton Hospital, so thanks to everyone who came along and either took part, listened or helped with fundraising.

An official press release will be issued soon.

Thanks folks,

Dave Roberts

LIVE & LOCAL EVENTS

The Abbey Inn, Newlay, Leeds, which is five miles north of the great metropolis, along the Leeds/Liverpool canal, hosts a singaround every Tuesday, from about 8:30pm.

It's good fun and very friendly. Top quality local ales too!

Second Thursday of the month; music session at the Packet Inn, Retford, Nottinghamshire, bridge 57 on the Chesterfield Canal. Plenty of moorings right by the pub. Micro brewery, low prices. Coffee later at my house - 30 yards!.
