27 Mar 07 - 12:36 AM (#2008151) Subject: RE: fave folk trios From: GUEST,Mike Miller OK, I don't think of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross as folk, either, but Mudcat has, so, diluted the meaning of "folk" that they, surely, qualify. If blues is folk, so is jazz. (No one would have balked if I said Joni Mitchel but she sang "Twisted", not as well as Annie Ross, but you had to give her an A for effort) Oh, allright, if you don't want them to be "folk", a'bi gzindt, but weren't they terrific? |

Can I combine Joni, Judy, and Laura Nyro? What an act that would've been. Or Joan. Any combination. The Roches...they're unique...and from Jersey. |
27 Mar 07 - 04:50 AM (#2008243) Subject: RE: fave folk trios From: GUEST,Keith Zorn, Downes & Beer were really excellent in the early 80s. That was Bill Zorn, Paul Downes & Phil Beer. It was the version of the Arizona Smoke Revue you booked if you folk club was too small for the full 5 piece. Faith, Folk & Anarchy (Martyn Joseph, Steve Knightley and Tom Robinson) was a relatively short lived project early this century. A superb blend of music. Most of the gigs were in 2002, but the "final" gig was in 2004. They produced just the one very good studio album (now deleted) and an absolutely stunning live CD (which is still available). I understand a short reunion set is planned for the Royal Albert Hall in a couple of weeks and perhaps a full concert in December. |

The Limeliters aren't gone. Bill Zorn has defected to the Kingston Trio, but he has been replaced and Gaylan Taylor has also now joined them too. http://www.limeliters.com/ Funnily enough, last time I saw Gaylan (December 2004) he was with Bill & Pete Zorn plus Paul Downes in the Arizona Smoke Revue, sort of playing the part of Phil Beer. |
