14 Apr 07 - 06:36 AM (#2024975) Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Weekend 2007 From: Cats Hi, I'm back from Belfast and sort of in one piece... so tired!! Fox and Hounds is at the F&H at Bridestowe from 11 - 13 May. The pub offers hotel rooms, a bunkhouse where you can book a bunk in a shared room or book a whole room for a group or family (very useful if the weather is bad), an excellent campsite with hook-ups for campers and caravans if you want them. The hotel rooms, bunkhouse and hook-ups need to be booked in advance. To book accommodation phone Frank, the landlord, on 01822 820206 or Dave the manager. This makes you a resident of the pub for the weekend. Pay him on arrival. The tickets for the weekend are £5 or if you can only come fro a bit then we ask for a donation. Just let us know you are coming you don't have to book in advance but we do like to know about how many to expect. We sing in the Skittle Alley, which is separate from the main pub and is, therefore, quiet. Frank is Irish and loves having us there, not just because we drink lots of beer but he loves 'the craic'. The sessions tend to be Friday evening, Saturday lunchtime, Saturday evening and Sunday lunchtime until about 3pm. We take it in turns to sing around the room, ably assisted by Bendigo the Fox. Beginners are very welcome. We all have to start somewhere, and, we are very proud to be able to say that there are people who are now singers who started at the Fox and Hounds Weekends. The whole ethos of the weekend is that it is not a festival but a very informal weekend and there is really no pressure to do anything. If you want to play there are no separate sessions, you take your turn as we go round, poems, stories and monologues, even the odd spot of juggling, are all welcome. (Fire eating outside, please). On Sunday there is a leisurely walk up the Tor at the back of the pub for an early morning sing – quite spectacular and worthy of a special song! All proceeds from the weekend go to local charities or children's charities that local folkies are involved with. In past years we have made donations to the Dartmoor Rescue Team, helped bring a child from Chernobyl for a holiday in Cornwall and, last year, helped set up a school in Angola. On Saturday night it is the tradition that Jon and/or Kathy sing a song and as we do we put round a glass for you to put in donations towards a specific charity. The collection ends when we stop singing whether or not we have got round the room! If you want directions on how to get there either pm me or put a post on here and I'll put them up. Love to see you. |
14 Apr 07 - 06:39 AM (#2024976) Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Weekend 2007 From: Cats Sorrry it wasn't last year we helped set up the school. That was 2 years ago. 14 May 07 - 12:10 PM (#2051542) Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Weekend 2007 From: Hawker Have just been reading about the wonderful effects of Rhubarb - and discovered this little gem, I thin its supposed to be serious, but the spelling mistake makes it a rib tickling piece................. What Is Rhubarb Used for Today? Rhubarb root contains lindleyin, a substance with estrogen-like properties.1 On this basis, extracts of rhubarb have been tried for control of menopausal symptoms. In a 12-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 109 women with menopause-related problems, use of a standardized Rheum rhaponticum. extract significantly improved symptoms as compared to placebo.2 Improvements were particularly seen in rate and severity of hot flashes. While this is meaningful supporting evidence, additional independent trials will be necessary to establish this rhubarb extract as a safe and effective treatment for menopause. So Guys, if you want your women to improve their HOT FLASHES, give them more rhubarb - especially if they are menopausal!!!!!!!!! LOL On a more serious note, another article warned....................... "Despite its therapeutic properties, it is however good to be cautious in its use, there is some interaction of rhubarb with some medicines for the treatment of heart problems, so go easy on the Rhubarb out there if you are on heart meds! - of course you can still use it as a splint! Cheers, Lucy |

16 May 07 - 05:42 AM (#2053286) Subject: RE: Fox and Hounds Weekend 2007 From: GUEST,robinia Oops -- that message got prematurely posted, meant to say that it definitely won't be my last. What a lovely circle of singers! Now to get songs properly in my head (including The Griesly Bride for another spooky late night session, hope, hope) and to remember not to race through them quite so fast (thank you, Hilery!). Right now I'm in Sheffield, taking shelter from the rain with cousin Roger and looking about for more good music (the Meadow Street Hotel?). When I get back to Seattle I'll have to take another look at my indomitable rhubarb patch, never realized its erotic possibilities (I'd always associated THAT with asparagus!) See you all next year! |

Positive stroking being sought ha ha I understand it works without needing rhubarb. Thanks again to all the singers for the weekend. Still chilled out. Never thought rhubarb could put a smile on the grumpy old mans face. grin Allan |

Dave is now a convert, whether he is ever allowed to sing about rhubarb again, I am not sure. I rather like the idea of asparagus although it would scan in the song love Ann |

Thank you for your kind offer to pick it up from the pub - but the brolly only cost us £1 so we'll donate it to the pub. If the weather last weekend was anything to go by they should find a use for it. See you at Bude Carole |
