11 Apr 07 - 12:56 AM (#2021913) Subject: RE: Moor & Coast-Whitby- Who's going?? From: Rasener I really like the Moor & Coast Festival, but can't make it this year. However it really depends on what floats your boat. Are you only interested in sessions? |
11 Apr 07 - 03:07 AM (#2021938) Subject: RE: Moor & Coast-Whitby- Who's going?? From: GUEST,Tom Bliss It's a GREAT weekend rest assured. Don't miss it unless you really have to (sorry we won't see you Villan). There will be sessions and singarounds (including late night in the shower block as ever, no doubt), plus all the delights of Whitby - oh and some concerts too! |

12 Apr 07 - 02:34 PM (#2023409) Subject: RE: Moor & Coast-Whitby- Who's going?? From: Lynn W You don't say what sort of sessions you are after, Banjo - mixed or just tunes, Irish or American style banjo? I have been to every Moor and Coast since it started and enjoyed them all, but it has to be said that tune sessions are fairly thin on the ground, particularly in the evening, compared to some other festivals - the same weekend there is Girvan for Irish and the Sewerby Hall do for American, both of which would have more tunes I think. However, I am sticking with Whitby as I just love it, and have always found a session - I know several musicians who are going this time and will be up for impromptu sessions as well as the official ones. |

18 Apr 07 - 06:11 PM (#2029316) Subject: RE: Moor & Coast-Whitby- Who's going?? From: muppitz Apologies Jo Jo, I was reponding to the title of the thread, which isn't "What's the festival like?", if that HAD been the title I would have passed comment as such. But since you desire that information, I shall divulge.... I have only missed one Moor & Coast festival, it's run by a swell committee who are all fully involved in the festival during its hours of operation, the sessions & singarounds are always good fun, the ones in the programme tend to lean more towards singers sessions however you can pretty much guarantee being able to find a musicians session in a pub or two that ISN'T in the programme. There are a wide variety of guests to see at concerts in appropriate venues, with more than able sound engineers at the helm, the only criticism being that the Friendship club's Saturday night concert is always full to bursting due to the venue being a little small. Whitby itself is a lovely place to be, full of history and wonderful scenery, a walk down to the beach, as long as the sun is out of course, is a pleasant way to blow out the cobwebs and often there is a fully dressed ship, the Grand Turk being a fairly frequent visitor (Unless someone wants to correct me on that) in port which makes the whole event seem so appropriate. The camping facilities are excellent, showers available in the morning for their intended use and also in the evening for a proper use due to the absence of a food tent, the site has security and the festival has built up a regular following of capeable stewards who know what they're doing. Is that better? |
19 Apr 07 - 06:32 AM (#2029801) Subject: RE: Moor & Coast-Whitby- Who's going?? From: GUEST,M&C We are using the Grand Turk on Saturday Evening as a concert venue... This will help the Friendship Clubs crammped, if not friendly, problem... The fringe side of the festival is healthy... Sessions in the Black Horse, the Ship, The Little Angel, the Middle Earth... but unfortunatly not the Plough... Loads of Dance teams performing on Saturday and Sunday afernoon, and Mr Fox doing there great performance on Saturday night starting on Tate Hill Pier... next to The Duke of York Church Street... Only two weeks to go !!! |

07 May 07 - 06:18 AM (#2045083) Subject: RE: Moor & Coast-Whitby- Who's going?? From: Betsy Hi Nutty , I concur . I popped down to the Station 4-ish on Saturday for the last hour of the advertised Musicians seesion. Not a note being played, no instrumnets on view and presunably any instruments were in their cases in the front room. I appreciate I am being extremely selective, but I would have thought that the last hour of a musicians Session should have been jumping, so, Old Git , I can't report anything to make you jealous , but let me wish you a full and speedy recovery with your leg injury. |
07 May 07 - 05:00 PM (#2045454) Subject: RE: Moor & Coast-Whitby- Who's going?? From: gnomad Endeavour had a session on Saturday evening. I only got in the Station Inn for Sunday evening due to work commitments. Very full, and a fair bit going on. Can't really report on the festival as a whole 'cos I wasn't really there that much, but I saw quite a few faces I know in the town. OG: Jim&Al will be able to give you the lowdown on the Endeavour Saturday bit. Your stand-in seemed to have had a good time when I bumped into him late on Sunday. Waist-level water is OK you know, as long as you are the right way up ;-) Hope you are recovering well. |
