After listening to Martyn Windham-Read sing this, I still can't work out the chords. Has anybody else tried to accompany this Graeme Miles song?

The following works for me:
(C)I roam and ramble in (F)lonely (G7)place-(C)s
All (F)in the coolness of the (G7)rain,
Over rolling (C)hill and (F)rugged (G7)moun-(Am)tain,
Over sandy (F)heath and (G7)grassy (C)plain.
And should you (F)ask am I con-(C)tent there
I'd answer (F)'Yes, oh (D7)yes in-(G)deed(G7)'
For my love it (C)is for (F)lonely (G7)place-(Am)s
Where springs leap (F)down and (G7)ravens (C)feed.

The song is in the first book of GM songs. The second book is to be launched at The Grove Folk Club, Leeds, this Friday, with both Graeme and Martyn. Further details on the Grove website.

Thank you Doctor! Any chance of buying the GM book? I think I chatted to someone from the Grove at Cleethorpes last year but the combination of alcohol, Martyn's singing and the incoming tide viewed from the upper floor of the Winter Gardens overwhelmed the little grey cells...

If you can make it to The Grove tomorrow both books should be on sale there, and you'll be able to get a signed copy. Otherwise contact Sam Dodds on ed.sam.music@virgin.net. Failing all of that send me a PM and I'll sort something for you.

Fergie, Martyn Wyndham-Read's CD is from www.fellside.com, which may have a sample from Fellside Recordings, P.O. Box 40, Workington, Cumbria, CA14 3JG, UK.

We heard Martyn sing Songs by Graeme Miles at Cleethorpes last year and decided to go for the CD on the strength of that alone. Good luck with the song, it is very nice to sing!

These seem to be the complete lyrics. Found here.

WHERE RAVENS FEED
Graeme Miles

I roam and ramble in lonely places, all in the coolness of the rain,
Over rolling hill and rugged mountains, over sandy heath and grassy plain;
And should you ask, am I contented? I'd answer, "Yes, oh, yes indeed",
For my love it is for lonely places where springs leap down, where ravens feed.

I seek and find these lonely places where bounds the hare, and deer run
Over crags of grey and mossy boulders, shaded from the morning sun;
And should you ask, am I at ease there? I'd answer, "Yes, oh, yes indeed",
For my heart it dwells in lonely places where springs leap down, where ravens feed.

I yearn and long for lonely places where hunts the fox and badgers play,
Where midnight stars are at their brightest, where snow lies deep where mists hang grey;
And should you ask, am I at home there? I'd answer, "Yes, oh, yes indeed",
For my desires are for lonely places where springs leap down, where ravens feed.

I lose myself in lonely places on heathered moor and bracken fell,
And with the wind hold conversation. It always has so much to tell;
And should you ask, am I at ease there? I'd answer, "Yes, oh, yes indeed",
For I'll always need these lonely places where springs leap down, where ravens feed.

From that clip, Martyn seems to be using a chord sequence based on D as the tonic chord, but pretty much follows the sequence given by The Doctor, using C as the base chord.

I heard Martyn do this song while he and Iris were setting up at Faldingworth a few months back.

Delightful. A wonderful song sung by a wonderful artist.

Treat yourself, buy the album.
