19 Apr 07 - 09:27 AM (#2029890) Subject: BS: How are we to celebrate St George's day From: Folk Form # 1 April 23rd is St George's day and patriotic Englishman around the world are to celebrate their national day. But how do we celebrate? What do we do? The Irish have their parades and get drunk and the scots pipe in the haggis and get drunk. What, however, do the English do? Should we have a roast beef meal with plenty of ale while playing our Steeleye Span CDs in the background? St George's Day use to be a big festival in England until the 18th Century, evidently. I wonder how they celebrated? Anyone with any ideas? |

It is very easy---just look it up on the internet !! I was AMAZED to discover, within the last two days, that ,OFFICIALLY , England does NOT EXIST in Europe !! Scotland, YES !! Because they have a parliament, and therefore a representative at the European Parliament in Brussels .Wales, YES!! Because they have a National Assembly, and ,therefore a representative at the European Parliament in Brussels . But ENGLAND is NOT, yes! NOT represented at the European Parliament in Brussels , because there is NO ENGLISH PARLIAMENT !!! We are the ONLY country in the EU that is not officially recognised as a country !! So Brussels "recognises " Scotland, and Wales, and the United Kingdom, of course, ---But not England !! That"s why, on a census form ,or any other form come to that, you can"t tick a box to say that your"e English. Sad, isn"t it ?? Mind you, you could always go down the pub and watch football ,I suppose-----Have a few Britneys, then go home for a Melvyn, if you get my meaning ?? Patriotism"s too much hassle, innit ?? |

And whilst we are on the subject of lack of english representation in europe, how about the lack of english invlovement in the british-irish council. Go to the following link and spot the missing nation. http://www3.british-irishcouncil.org/member/membermain.asp I'll give you a clue it begins with "e" and it is not "estonia". If i remember correctly there was a delibrate attempt to make no mention of england in the council's constitution, unlike the other coountries.
