08 May 07 - 12:02 PM (#2046195) Subject: Sessions etc in Vancouver From: Trevor Thomas Hello there, My lovely girlfriend is going to Vancouver in about three weeks for a physiotherapy conference, and I'm going to tag along. We've also booked a few days off work after the conference to do some sightseeing etc. We've never been before and are really looking forward to it. I'd very much like to go to a few sessions while I'm there, if possible. So can anyone tell me what sessions there are in Vancouver? We'll be there about a week. |

If there's anyone out there who lives in Vancouver and who's got anything to add about their local music scene, and can suggest anything else we might want to check out, then it'd be great to hear from you. I found out that there's a ukulele session in Vancouver, which sounds like great fun, but it's once a month and sadly not on the week we're there. |

This forty kilometre odyssey took place not in Vancouver, which lies on the south shore of Burrard Inlet, but rather in West Vancouver and North Vancouver, which are on the North Shore, a region now famous for its hard-core mountain-biking scene. One's chalk, the other, cheese, and West Vancouver even more so. To BCers anyway. The Troller was one of the first brew pubs in the province, serving a delicious murky brew with the odd hop flake floating in it. If you don't think that sounds yummy, you haven't had the opportunity to compare it with ordinary Canadian draft, about which the best that can be said is that at least it's twice as good as that stuff they call beer in the States. |

10 May 07 - 08:28 AM (#2047913) Subject: RE: Sessions etc in Vancouver From: stallion When Ron was in Vancouver he went on "The Crawl" with a mad Russian who's name escapes me, he had managed all the pubs bar one and called me at 5am UK time, he was "elevated" by alcohol and I was still in a half slumber, he asked me if I knew how to get to it. Well as you know Folk music gets twisted in time and I had found "The Park Royal Hotel" a bit of a tongue twister at the pace we sing the song so I had changed it to "The Mizzen Head", which many may know is a pub in Dublin. He then asked if it was within walking distance or would they need a cab, "A boat or a plane mate, it's in Dublin!" was my reply, as far as I know he did make it to the Park Royal and, as far as I can make out, "The Crawl" is a bus tour now! cheers Peter |

(although it's not so plentiful here in the UK)And I play with a singer who's also a postman! So obviously this is some sort of omen! I'll definitely check this out. I like pretty much any kind of music, so long as it's fun to play. I'll be taking a guitar and mandolin, so I should be OK for the bluegrass. I've never even been to Canada, never mind Vancouver, and I'm really excited about it. |
