Hissyfit - Flaxton, N Yorks Jun 6th 2007

11 May 07 - 12:12 PM (#2049288)
Subject: Hissyfit - Flaxton, N Yorks Jun 6th 2007
From: Nick

It gives me great pleasure that Hissyfit are coming to play at Flaxton in North Yorkshire on June 6th 2007 from somwehere around 8.30 onwards.

For those of you (ie most of you) who have never been to our musical gathering we are normally operate a mixed singers/musicians singaround session but VERY occasionally have a spot for guests (Last Night's Fun came twice when we were in Farlington before Sam Smiths pushed us out and Kieran Halpin was the last visitor to Flaxton) so I thought I'd let people know. There is no entrance fee but we will probably have a raffle at some time.

The pub is about 10 miles north of York just off the A64 at the Thompsons Arms in Flaxton (nr the level crossing) and there is a map here.

We will probably start about 8.15 so that we can have our usual sing and play and Linda and Hazel will then sing some of their music.

Looking forward to it enormously.

We are hoping to visit next week Nick so hope you are not all on Hols
Do you still allow whinging songwriters in or did we wear out our welcome last time?
Linda you will have great fun there and you will be treated to some fine audience participation.
I would gladly go along to Flaxton just to sit and listen to the harmony singing it took my breath away when I was playing there in the singaround and heard the voices joining in.
Brilliant nights at Flaxton.

Mick -
I spoke to Stuart the landlord last night and he said you would be very welcome to park your camper in the car park. He did (jokingly) ask if you drink beer (I presume the implication being that this was like payment for parking overnight) and I smiled...

Tim -
It would be lovely to see you and of course you are welcome anytime.

There were about 40 people there last night including a group of visiting German's; two of them joined in and are returning next week, one of them singing English folk songs. Very multi-cultural, we.

I will probably mention it to a few people on Saturady at York folk Day so we will be quite busy with a bit of luck.

You have to do Bird on a Wire and Northern Tide because I promised people (if you don't mind).

Apart from that up to you. I have lots of favourites (Sweet Minerva; Luckiest Sailor; Neil Young song etc etc) and I'm sure anything you choose will be excellent.

But..... Thanks to all at Flaxton 23/5/07.
Jen and I had a lovely time seeing and hearing you all again.
We also enjoyed playing and thank you for all the kind words and encouragement.
We also had a great time at the Three Tunns(Hotel) on the following evening.
It is great to get to hear new(to us) performers and materiel and to be able to join your evening and be made so welcome was fantastic.
Long may you continue at both venues.

The 'Carnival' will be well and truly 'over' if anyone thinks the Lady Kelly, (with bows and flows of angel hair), will include anything 'Seekers'ish on the set list for the forthcoming event. I dare not incurr her wrath. My ice cream castles will be melted and it's not soo hard to live without one or two old songs when we have such wonderful words to sing from the Kelly pen itself!

See you Wednesday

She is a lovely lass really nice person.
If you go to the thingy address above you can find links to her band WWW and HElian keys.
Both are resident bands at Faldinworth live.
And she is also well known in all the local pubs for playing with anyone who asks! LOL
But only in a very nice and not at all salacious way.
OUch!
That in anticipation of her reading this.

"THANK YOU FLAXTON".

We, 'Hissyfit', and travelling audience (Fiona), had a fantastic evening. What a friendly bunch you are. We enjoyed YOUR lovely singing/playing and harmonies. It was soooo hard to tear ourselves away... (maybe a Friday night would have been better as Linda is already into her second hour at work 'as I write').

Many thanks to Nick and Lynne, for tea and hospitality and directions for the most direct route home. We made it back just before 1 a.m. Thank you all for making us welcome.
Nick invited us quite a while ago. We're sorry it took us so long to organise ourselves but that delay meant we had even more songs to sing to you! I particularly liked it when the 11 o'clock chimes cut in over 'Thiepval'. In tune too!!

Extra special thanks to Donald for his Leonard Cohen songbook. What a treat. Your book will be treasured and well used.
Got to go.
Very best wishes to all,
Hazel and Linda (and Fiona) x x x

Well a big round of applause for the two of you for a really enjoyable evening.

I hope you got home safely and managed to get up early enough having stayed so late.

For those of you who couldn't make it you missed some excellent singing. I would also say that Hissyfit's fan base has expanded some more as there were some impressed people last night who hadn't heard you before.
ire
Some highlights? Bird on the Wire is wonderful for us Leonard Cohen fans; love the slave songs; Sweet Minerva was as good as I remember it; Lament is a new favourite for me... I could go on (also enjoyed the Amazing Grace afterwards which was fun)

Glad we had a PA as it would have been a bit noisy as the night went on. One of the benefits of that is that I have a CD of 14 of the songs - Hissyfit Live at Flaxton! If either of you PM me with an address I could probably pop a CD through your letterbox at lunchtime - is this a record for the fastest produced live album ever?
(The quality is OK but I could actually make it a lot better if you want me to).

Thanks again for a really enjoyable night.

Message to Linda - could you bring some different coloured bags next time so that we can colour code the different sorts of leads I have :)

And anyone who thinks they may have a winning ticket for the superspeed raffle thay are behind the bar at the Thompsons.
