BS: Man eats dog

Subject: BS: Man eats dog in protest
From: Wesley S

Just reported by MSNBC:

LONDON - A British artist has eaten chunks of a corgi dog, the breed favored by Queen Elizabeth II, live on radio to protest the royal family's treatment of animals.

Mark McGowan, 37, said he ate "about three bites" of the dog meat, cooked with apples, onions and seasoning, to highlight what he called Prince Philip's mistreatment of a fox during a hunt by the queen's husband in January. "It was pretty disgusting," McGowan said of the meal, which he ate while appearing on a London radio station Tuesday. Yoko Ono, another guest on the show, also tried the meat. "I've never tasted anything like it — it was gray and had a very funny smell. It was horrible," McGowan told Reuters.

McGowan said he was angry that the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, of which the royal family is a patron, had not prosecuted Prince Philip for hunting and killing the fox. The RSPCA said the fox did not suffer.

Corgis are the favored dogs of the queen, who has owned more than 30 of them during her reign.

The dog died of natural causes at a corgi breeder and was prepared and cooked by others for McGowan.
McGowan is well known for his outlandish performance stunts. He ate a swan in another protest against the queen. Swans are protected by the monarchy.

Let's hope no one in the royal family is ever seen kicking a butler.....

Nice one Bill!

All that fuss about the royals just makes me laugh. Maybe these people ought to look at the real world of they really want to protest something. I think it's more a ploy to get some notice - bit sad really.

As Thomas Paine said, "the difference between a Courtier and a Republican is, one thinks royalty IS something; the other KNOWS that it is nothing..."   The RSPCA, like the National Trust, at an upper, administrative, level, are nothing more than a section of the British Ruling Class ensuring that things go on the same for as long as possible. They'll never rock the boat.

No matter how you prepare corgi, it always tastes like shih tzu.

LOL. Someone should start manufacturing Corgi Soup by Appointment to Her Majesty. I'd love to design the label for it.

Yeah, and shih tzu tastes bloody awful! Really not worth the trouble, in my opinion.

Throw Mark McGowan to the swans I say...and let the corgis clean up what's left over after the swans are done.

Obviously prepared poorly. No reason why dog shouldn't be perfectly appetizing; they were raised as food animals in several cultures.

I would have to be starving to consider eating dog. I can't even imagine doing it just as a publicity stunt. What caps it for me is saying that the dog he ate died of "natural causes"; YUMMY.

Och, who ever heard of eating a dog that died of natural causes... Wahsheechu... ( he said shaking his head... )

Reminds me of a wonderful afternoon one day, sitting with three Lacota pals... and one Crow. Now, one should know, that the Crow live in some discomfort with the Lacota, for a number of centuries ... We were in a luncheonette, in Connecticut. The waitress came over and one of the Lacota asked her if she had Humpee on the menue.
"What is that", she asked...
"Dog stew", the fellow replied.
"YOU EAT YOUR DOGS!!!" she said in horror.
"Oh no!" another Lacota gent said. "Our dogs are our pets. We eat dog, with reverence at times, but, we don't eat our own dogs."
"Where do you get the dogs?" the waitress asked.
All three, in unity pointed at Merrith Stops at Pretty Places, "The crow!" they said.

Yummy, crowdog.

all the best
lorcan

PS Anyone ever ate fox?

Good saying, but I strongly doubt that I would ever be that hungry, when it comes to dog. On the other hand, if it had been marinated overnight?

Maybe a nice plum sauce, or a lively chilli sauce would help. Then I could have a chilli dog. Do you think it will catch on?

Lewis and Clark reached the Columbia River in what is now Washington State and bargained with the Cowlitz or one of the tribes along there to buy dogs to eat because they didn't want to eat salmon.

The Ojibwa (also called Chippewa) mixedblood writer Louise Erdrich has a story narrated by a dog whose name is "Almost Soup."

And where do you think the phrase "putting on the dog" comes from? Dog is what many Native American tribes served to honored guests.

Greetings earth people.

We have stopped by here again because we need sustenance and are again seeking good protein sources.

The JohnInKansas did not work out as he was too tough - even after a week of marinating. We perceive that this 'dog' may be suitable for our purposes. Where can we find it?

Thank you.

There's a big dog at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in the District of Columbia that you should try first. But sneak in, there are other dogs that hover around it a lot.

Thank you for the information. If we are really hungry, we may take all the dogs.

What sauce would you recommend?

Darn! It's just not like Mudcat for a thread to go this long without a foaming rant, followed by a vigorous exchange of abuse ...

Don't suppose there's any chance of an anti-swan-baiting rant then, is there?

No, but I'm sure someone will willingly offer to verbally "goose" you.

Sauce for those big dogs? I dunno. Maybe serve them blackened. Really blackened. And do something with capers.
