11 Jun 07 - 12:50 PM (#2073783) Subject: BS: A Request for Postcards from Mudcatters From: Linda Goodman Zebooker Marc Shepanek is a swing (and other) dance teacher in the Washington DC area, and a terrific guy. He's recently been sick with lymphoma, and though doing well under treatment, really needs a lift to the heart. A couple of weeks ago Marc was to have been teaching nearby at a contra/swing/tango weekend with his partner, Ellen Engle, but he was having chemotherapy. Ellen taught alone, and suggested to all Marc's students and fans attending the workshops that we send, and have other people send him postcards – preferably from far away places and unsigned, or signed by people Marc doesn't even know. She thinks receiving this flood of weird postcards would cheer him up enormously. I thought, "Well, there's this bunch of far-flung folk I could ask to do this……" One thing Marc stresses in his extremely funny and enjoyable classes is taking care of your partner. And while dancing if you goof up, he invites you not to take the blame yourself but you can always say "Marc made a mistake". Marc is a psychologist and chief of aerospace medicine at NASA headquarters in Washington DC. His work is with enabling human missions to extreme environments, in particular interplanetary exploration. He studies group dynamics, adaptation to isolation and positive psychology. If anyone would like to send him a postcard, please send it to: Marc Shepanek Flying Feet Enterprises 4408 Faraday Pl NW Washington DC 20016 USA Thank you --Linda |

11 Jun 07 - 08:06 PM (#2074211) Subject: RE: BS: Request for Postcards from Mudcatters From: Linda Goodman Zebooker Thank you, everyone. Beer mats would be MOST appropriate also! I meant to originally say that Ellen is Marc's "dancing partner" - don't want to be misleading. At the dance weekend Ellen also had a blank book and lots of colored pens at the registration table. Anyone who wanted to, filled out a page of good wishes/things they'd learned. And there were some beautiful sketches and poems too. Very nice to read. I'll let Ellen know there are postcards coming. Appreciatively, Linda |

22 Jun 07 - 04:37 AM (#2083788) Subject: RE: BS: Request for Postcards from Mudcatters From: Sandra in Sydney no worries. I knew you'd appreciate them! Wot a shame there were no postcards of the south end of the beach, but postcards seem to have really improved since the last time I went looking for (tacky) postcards. Now the only topless people on the beach were the men!! And I couldn't find any at all of exotic dancers. According to the postcards the Cross is a place of lovely parks & decorative fountains, not strip clubs. Ah, well THEY have cleaned it up. sandra |

01 Jul 07 - 06:13 AM (#2091478) Subject: RE: BS: Request for Postcards from Mudcatters From: Linda Goodman Zebooker I'm going to inquire today. I wanted things to arrive without my giving Ellen an idea of the scope of what to expect! I had just told her "the Mudcat is on it". Last weekend I took a little jaunt from Maryland to New Jersey and back, and sent off postcards along the way, extolling the virtues of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, DC and Virginia --each signed by 4-5 ladies named, Alice, Beverly, Caroline....Yvonne, Zelda. Gave a little extra purpose to the trip. Again, so many thanks for all your postcards! I'll let you know what I find out. Linda |
