Dan Schatz CD released

I think this belongs in the "Shameless Self Promotion" department, but I couldn't find a "SSP" prefix for the thread.

My new CD, Bring the Morning Home, arrived today and is officially ready to sell! It's a mix of some the best and most requested songs I've been singing for the past 15 years (hard to believe it's been that long), with chorus vocals from Dick Swain, Judy and Dennis Cook, Nancy King and Geeta Shivde. Some of the songs are traditional, some mine, and some by friends like Lois Lyman and David Dodson. It comes with a 20 page booklet of song lyrics and notes.

More detailed information is at my website, www.danschatz.com. On the "Bring the Morning Home" link there are sound-clips of some of the songs, and information on ordering.

I feel a special connection to the Mudcat with this CD, because it's people like you, the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, Sandy and Caroline over at Folk Legacy, and others, that keep this kind of music alive - made it live for me since I was a little kid toddling around the Getaway.

So now, as someone mentioned on another thread, another baby is released into the world - and who knows what will happen next?

Congratulations, Dan - as someone who remembers you singing 'Good Clam Chowder' some 20 years ago at an FSGW Getaway, I am glad to know that one of the next generation of singers is being heard. May the CD be well received!

Let me add my congradulations to Padre's. Just listened to the clips. Delightful! (and a well designed website to boot.)

I can close my eyes and be transported to some of your performances at the Getaway.

Padre, how old was he when he sang "Chowder"? He ain't all that old now!
Dan, can I depend on there being copies for sale at the Getaway?

That someone was me! Congratulations on the newest new arrival at your house!! I'm so glad to hear that your beautiful songs are on disk.

Hmmm, which takes up more room: the new baby with all his equipment, or all those boxes of CDs?

Padre, you don't want to think about when that Getaway really was. I think it was almost 26 years ago, at Camp Letts.

One way or another, I'm sure CDs will be available at the Getaway.

We've been a little busy with the baby, so we're holding off until the Fall for an album release concert. We've got some possibilities in the works, and I'm hoping to begin playing more often.

Congratulations, Dan. I can't find a list of cuts on your website and the CD cover is too small for these aging eyes to decipher. Set list?

If you scroll down the list should be there, but it's just as easy to give it to you here. I tried to make it a true mix of traditional and contemporary material. (Though "contemporary," by my standards, is more a chronological than stylistic measurement.)

1.   Bring the Morning Home (Dan Schatz)
2.   Roustabout (traditional)
3.   Leave Time (Dan Schatz)
4.   Brother Ephus (traditional)
5.   La Llorona (traditional)
6.   Home, Dearie, Home (traditional)
7.   In the Old Days (Dan Schatz)
8.   Bye n' Bye Little Baby (traditional/ Dan Schatz)
9.   Song of the Artesian Water (Banjo Patterson/ Cathie O'Sullivan)
10.   Autumn's Hearth (Dan Schatz)
11.   I Was Right (David Dodson)
12.   The Winds of Change (Dan Schatz)
13.   Sarajevo (Lois Lyman)
14.   South Wind (traditional)
15.   A Song in the Darkness (Dan Schatz)
16.   May This Fire Warm You Well (Dan Schatz)

I think I forgot to mention the specific Getaway connections to some of the songs on the CD - "A Song in the Darkness" was written about the Getaway, and "Song of Artesian Water" is one I first heard at the Getaway - I think it was that same Sunday night concert Padre was referring to, back in 1981 or 82, at Camp Letts.

I'm looking forward to getting my copy this weekend! We had a lot of fun singing on the choruses, though it was harder work than I'd anticipated. It'll be interesting to hear how it turned out!

Dan-

Don't worry about refreshing this thread. One has to be assertive at Mudcat. Sometimes the silence is deafening when it comes to music!

I'm delighted to find out that you've recorded Dave Dodson's "I Was Right I Was Wrong All Along," a fine temperance ballad.

Perhaps we can arrange a swap of CD's at 10 paces?

Cheerily,

Dan, Somewhere in my collection of old tapes (remember them?) I have a homemade recording of the 1982 Getaway featuring not only the song, but your introduction, in which you [accurately, in my opinion] skewer the cooking at Camp Letts. And the artesian water song is on there as well.

Hmmm.... Can a minister pay off a priest to keep those tapes safely lost in your collection?

That's the Getaway at which I first heard the Artesian Waters song, when I was all of nine years old. I remember really liking the song, but wondering where Artesia was.

And yes, Charlie, I'd be glad to swap!

Schatzie, darling! How ARE you??

Congrats on both babies, the flesh-and-blood and the plastic-and-digital. I won't tell you how old a tape of yours I have is, except that I think I got it when vinyl had just gone out...

Remember Austin!

Wow! It's Andrea Aldridge, chantey-singer, songwriter, and all around good egg! Andrea, there's a link to my e-mail on my website, under Contact, or you can reach me through the CD-Baby page. Or you could join Mudcat (which is absolutely worth doing and costs nothing more than time and, if you feel so moved, the occasional donation) and send me a personal message. I'd love to be back in touch!

Soooo... does one have to order your CD through your website or CDBaby, Dan, or can one just swing by the church some Sunday morning and purchase a CD from you directly?

I tend to be careful about mixing the business end of music with the fellowship, mainly because of professional ethics guidelines. So the CD isn't on sale there, and if it becomes so, it would be as a fundraiser for the congregation. (There is a very rough live recording in mono that is on sale there as a fundraiser, but none of the quality of the studio CD, and it doesn't have some of the most requested songs.) I can always arrange to swing by and deliver one if you'd like!

As of this morning, individual songs can be downloaded at DigStation. A good option for those who prefer the mp3s....

"I tend to be careful about mixing the business end of music with the fellowship, mainly because of professional ethics guidelines."

...which is why I asked here instead of just showing up at the church and pestering you! :^)

I'll send you a PM, and we can talk privately about whether my place is too far out of your way to make a "delivery". Thanks!

Oh! I'm late to the party again.

Dan, you'll be singing to me from my waterproof MP3 player as I noodle around the pool tonight babying a sore back. I invariably whistle as I noodle, without even realizing it, so I guess I'll be learning your songs, too. I just got done hearing the CDBaby samples, but I will make myself wait till tonight to hear the long versions.

BTW, the DigiStation didn't seem to work-- hope CDBaby is treating you right this week.

Dan, way to go. It looks like a fine lineup of tunes. I'm sure this will become a favorite here. Sell a bunch of 'em.
