30 Jun 07 - 01:42 PM (#2090992) Subject: RE: Oxfam - Oxjam From: Les in Chorlton Sorry to keep wittering on but I cannot get all the information together in one copy and paste What will you do? Following the massive success of last year's Oxjam music festival, Oxjam is back! Oxjam is Oxfam's most ambitious music event ever. We are asking musicians, promoters - in fact, everyone - to get together this October to make music, raise money and help end poverty. From classical to club night, folk, funk and punk - it all adds up to one huge, UK-wide, Oxjam festival - raising hundreds of thousands of pounds to fight poverty. Whether you sing, scratch, or strum, you'll be joining some of the biggest names in music in the Oxjam line-up. You don't need a big venue - the beauty of Oxjam is that hundreds of small events make one huge party. And you make it happen. This October, we want Oxjam to be even better, so why not start planning your music night or Oxjam party now? |
30 Jun 07 - 07:42 PM (#2091221) Subject: RE: Oxfam - Oxjam From: Fliss Hi Les I ran a series of raffles at the Irish session at The Boat Inn, Jackfield, last autumn and we raised just over £100. Unfortunately the pub is closed at present and the session is in temp accommodation at another local pub. So will have to wait and see what happens. Ps click on the http and the whole address should highlight then press Ctrl C to copy then Ctrl V to paste into the document. The Make link clicky paste the link into the URL then copy and paste the link into the document. It should make it blue clicky. You can check it in preview to make sure. http://www.oxfam.org.uk/what_you_can_do/oxjam/article.php?ref=1?ito=0&ito=2439 cheers fliss |
01 Jul 07 - 03:02 AM (#2091395) Subject: RE: Oxfam - Oxjam From: Les in Chorlton Thanks fliss - you are clearly deeply skilled in the blue clicky thing. Has another new feature appeared here - my spelling mistakes keep getting underlined in red! A group of us are thinking of putting on a folk night as part of Oxjam, it seems a good way of getting to the public and drawing them into the endlessly fascinating world of folk. Anybody had success with this? Cheers Les |
01 Jul 07 - 10:47 AM (#2091575) Subject: RE: Oxfam - Oxjam From: GUEST,Sarah, Barnsley We did a night in Barnsley - nothing different to normal, it would have been a singers night anyway, but pushed the boat out publicity-wise and invited people who we knew, but weren't regulars to do slots (including 'friends' from myspace) All in all a sucess both for us - the biggest crowd we've had on a singers night, and for oxfam - we raised £120. Probably didn't get many non-music types in, though, but every bit of publicity helps. A good result for not-very-much work. I would encourage you to link up with anyone else doing an oxjam event in your area- even if it's heavy metal- you can ride off each others' publicity and it's a good opportunity to do some networking. Hope that helps, Sarah :) |

04 Jul 07 - 02:21 PM (#2094117) Subject: RE: Oxfam - Oxjam From: GUEST,Sarah, Barnsley Once you sign up, there is a website with loads of advice - e.g. how to write press releases, book venues etc etc. Last year they also offered a mentoring service, with people from the music industry volunteering their advice for free, and of course logos and arwtwork to use in your publicity. I wish I'd found out about all that a bit earlier, will definately go through it in more detail this year. There is very much an 'every little helps' approach. They ask that you put out oxfam leaflets/ have a stall, but don't insist on it. The only complication I had was making sure we stuck to guidelines for collecting money, which anyone collecting for a charity has to stick to anyway. |
05 Jul 07 - 11:31 AM (#2094741) Subject: RE: Oxfam - Oxjam From: Fliss They keep emailing me asking if I will do another event. I had a certificate for the amount I raised:) |
06 Sep 07 - 01:28 PM (#2142560) Subject: RE: Oxfam - Oxjam From: Les in Chorlton Oxjam really is an amazingly simple yet brilliant concept What is OXJAM? Oxjam is a music festival with a difference. Across the UK throughout October, people like you will be putting on Oxjam music events to raise money for Oxfam. I urge anybody who is involved in live music, especially folk music, to either put something on or designate a club night or similar event as an Oxjam and send the procedes to one of the most effective charities. http://www.oxfam.org.uk/get_involved/fundraise/oxjam/index.php?ito=2415&itc=0 http://www.oxfam.org.uk/get_involved/fundraise/oxjam/index.php?ito=2415&itc=0 Failed the blue clicky test again - can someone help? Your details will go on the website and you main gain new people. It will also show just how lively the current folk scene is. Please give it serious thought Cheers Les |
