Origins: Songs Out Of Season

Subject: Origins: Songs Out Of Season
From: GUEST,Guest

I was having a conversation with one of our Morris Team concerning singarounds material, I like singing songs with a chorus and as such I include songs such as Pace Egging etc. at any time of the year, my fellow dancer said these should be sung in season only as they seem out of place in the wrong months etc.    I have seen the Watersons on a number of occasions and it does not seem to bother them, what is the feeling from other folkies ?    Comments will govern my singing in the future so please be honest.

I know not of which songs you speak.
However I do have an opinion.
As someone who loves to hear new(To me!)songs, and would not be able to come and hear you sing a song at the correct time of the year.
If i ever have the pleasure of hearing you I would like to think I had heard what I could think of as your choice of great song;s,of the type /genre you love best.
I would hate to think I had missed out on one for the sake of it being a few days short of particular date.
I suppose there is a proper time and indeed place for the performance of some songs, dances&ceremony's.
But if you want to keep them alive for a wider audience and not just for those already in the know please sing as you feel.
