new music to share! - Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem

Sometimes NPR blows the lid off perfomers that have played under the radar for years: it's how I've found some of my favorite stuff!

Tonight I heard snippets of some of my favorite folks songs, reworked beautifully and lovingly by Rani Arbo and the band Daisy Mayhem. What fun! Go to itunes or her website (or the NPR story) and prepare to smile.

I discovered them, too, Dani, a couple of months ago and just love 'em. They do a great rendition of Oil in my Vessel, among others! They're great! And you're right! Made me smile. Again and again and again.

And....
it's been a while since I've learned a new song, but my new-favorite-newly-added-to-my- repertoire is Big Old Life!

They get better and better with each CD they record. They are brilliant performers, catch them if you can.

"Sometimes NPR blows the lid off perfomers "

By the way, not to change the subject, but NPR is often late to jump on the bandwagon and take credit for "discovering" artists like this. Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem have been on the radar of folk music radio programs across the country for several years, basically since the group started out.   If you enjoy what you hear on NPR, check to see if you local NPR or non-commercial radio station offers folk music programs. You will discover many artists that you will enjoy. Go to the left side of your dial and see what the non-com's are offering.

Also, just to clarify, I think it is wonderful that NPR showcases performers like this. They are extremely important for the perpetuation of the music we enjoy and deserve our support. My comment is made only because they are not the only game in town.

I hear you, Ron. We have Keith Weston and Freddie Jenkins' wonderful Back Porch Music here on WUNC! Haven't caught Daisy Mayhem there yet, but you can bet I'll be requesting 'em ; )

You might also want to look up Rani's former group, Salamander Crossing....named for the under road salamander crossings installed on Henry Street in Amherst.....
