Happy Birthday Mudcat 1 Oct 2007

We can't let the day pass can we? The Mudcat certainly deserves a birthday thread as she turned 11 years old today. On October 1, 1996 Max made the first post and Mudcat came alive without any idea how things would go. From where I sit, they have gone pretty well. I logged on here in late '98 and have made some fine friends over the years here.

One of the trademarks of Mudcat has been the friendships which have happened here and how in some cases close friends here have never met.

So, appropriately enough on this anniversay date, some "old friends" met for the first time. It was hard to tell which of them was the most excited. Bill D, and (Rita) Ferrara are from the original months of Mudcat and Bill may be the member posting longest, still on the 'Cat posting, and very active! Karen and I were fortunate enough to flag them down as they passed thru Ohio and we spent some wonderful hours together in 3D for the first time. More on that at a later time but suffice to say it sure made my highlight reel.

I have been blessed to know Bill and Rita and count them as friends for these many years.   It was just icing on the cake to be with them in 3D and to get and give some real hugs to go along with all the virtual ones we have passed in the past!

Thanks to Max and thanks to all who have made the joint what it is......whatever that is........and my love to all my friends here... met and unmet.

Spaw

Normally I really hate things where I can only say something like, "I agree with Spaw" but this time I do.

Mind you, the 'Cat had been scratching for some years before I joined up.

Okay, Spaw.

I concur.

Shall we express our thanks with a donation?
I can not put a price on all the good folks
I have met and made music with from the mudcat.

Thanx Max for providing this little play ground
for us! I will pitch in a pay pal pledge today!

Or how about getting a t-shirt or c.d.'s?

there are many ways to support our cat..our
mud cat.

Gee, only 11 years? Seems like I been here that long, but I haven't. I only got Internet in 98 so maybe I been here 8 years? I know I've made some good friends, and had some damn good holidays/trips out of the deal!

Yea, probably time to make a donation of some sort. Thanks to ALL of you for the fun and good times.

Thanks for all the fish too!

It was a fine, fine day when I first came here in late '98, too. Who knew I would meet my "evil" twin who kept kicking up cat litter back in the garden? HeyaSpawdarlin'...I haven't had to do that in quite awhile. Yer not goin' soft on us are ya?**bg**

Lucky you, getting to see two of Mudcat's finest!

Thank you, indeed to Max, a wonderful and incredibly talented young man and to Jeff, too, along with all of the Mudelves who worked so hard at Mudcat Central. There are still those of us who remember the radio daze and miss seeing you all, on camera, SO much! To this day when I hear Mississippi John Hurt on other radio stations, my mind goes "That's Max!" Damn I miss hearing you play and sing, Max!

Happy Birthday, Mudcat, the Greatest Show in Cyberland!!

Gosh, I'm almost a bit weepy thinking of this. ('almost'. I'm not usually soppy in that direction.) I must have come across Mudcat around 1998 as well, and I know exactly why. There was a thread on one of the folk newsgroups on Cosher Baily and Hob y Deri Dando. Abby Sale told me he was using some of my info on Mudcat and I should go look. And the rest, as they say, is history ...

Thanks for cartloads of information, laughs and food for thought over the years, Max and Co.

I contribute by Direct Debit and it's one of the few DDs that I don't regret for a minute!

It was around 1999 when I made my first postings, although I had lurked for a while before that .(Catspaws postings were a real revelation - I would love to meet that guy)

We were really lucky then, to have so much of Max's free time, before he got tied down with work and family comittments and before SPAM started to have such a big impact on the daily running of the site.

Mudcat Radio was a must, that and Hear-me introduced me to the Mudcat community.

Thanks Max

As one of the newer fellows , I dont know where I would be without the Cat and the good friends I have made here !

Yep - It's time to have a virtual piece of birthday cake in honor of the Mudcat. We've put the fun back in disfunctional as they say. I'm very glad that I stumbled into this place on a lyrics search many years ago. I've made some good friends here over the years. And if y'all want to know how quickly times flys when you're having fun - I'll point out that our son Brendan turns 7 years old this December 13th.

Hell, I remember when both of those newbies (kat and Spaw) came around. If they keep at it, they will be considered natives ..... ***chuckle***.

I posted as a GUEST for some months before I made my first post as a member back in March of 1998. I remember when we embraced Spaw and his family during one of his many attempts to bankrupt the healthcare system. That was pretty much of a magical time here.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to:

A place where entirely too much of my precious time has been all too well spent in the last nearly three years to the point where my own cat is jealous of one of mere mud.

A place where I've met many lasting friends, some eventually in person and a whole lot more in print, and where I intend to meet many more in years to come.

A place whose residents have housed me and been housed and exchanged local information back and forth with me on our travels and will continue to do so. A true "brotherhood of the road".

A place where I've found some of the best sets of lyrics I've ever partially forgotten and some of the best singing and playing that I'm sure I'll never forget.

A place where many of us have sharpened our writing skills on each other and have learned much worth actually writing about.

THANKS, to all involved in any way!!!!!!!

(If you don't know who you are, check your mirror or your wallet)...

well....I figgered 'Spaw would have a thread going before I got home! It was an incredible experience to meet him and his family...finally! And realizing it was on Mudcat's B-day was somehow appropriate.

(Spaw is...(heck, I have MET him...I can call him Pat now!) really a treasure...for all the reasons you know, and a few you don't. And Karen is...well...I see why he has bragged on her for years. And son Tristian came too - he is an expert on trucks and where they go, and on finding things people have lost.

We talked to and at each other for several hours, and could have done many more...but another time. It is quite a special thing to meet someone you have 'known' for over 10 years, and finding out it is better than you realized....icing on the cake.

Rita & I took a couple pics of the 'experience'...will post them when my head quits buzzing from the trip.

oh...yeah...Happy Birthday Mudcat....from old Bill, who posted in late Oct. of '96, and hasn't quit yet!

Glad to see you made it home safe and sound.

For us, meeting Bill and Rita was just the best. As Bill said, we talked and talked, with, to, at, over, under, and around us all for far too short a time. They were more than what we expected and two nicer folks could not be found. Rita generously and kindly gave a couple of her wonderful woodburning creations to us and I truly had no idea just how GOOD she really is. Bill and I each flipped our Philosophy degrees onto the check and I'll be damned if not only did we have to pay full price, but they charged us 25% surcharge to boot.......***sigh***.....oh well...

We are envious of all you other 'Catters who are able to see Bill and Rita more often. Thanks to the Mudcat we have have made some very special friends and to finally meet in 3D and find they were even more.........well, that's just real special!

Spaw

But we fixed 'em...we threw peanut hulls all over the floor!

Ok, Pat...I'll see your 'special' and raise you an 'amazing'. Let's just agree that a grand time was had by all...*grin*...☺

Yes, we are home and vaguely unpacked,...and Mudcat is 11 years & 1 day old...let there be rejoicing on both counts.
