03 Oct 07 - 12:58 PM (#2162816) Subject: MAWKIN:CAUSLEY From: GUEST,Mr McShamless Self Promoter Just thought I'd inform you all about a new collaboration that is touring this month. Those wicked Essex rascals, Mawkin, have joined forces with the honey-voiced Jim Causley to form one hell of a boyband! One of the best instrumental outfits to emerge in recent years, Mawkin have a string of festival and concert apperances under their belt. Bringing Jim Causley on board is a master stroke, as his gorgeous baritone voice is the perfect foil for their cleverly textured tunes and energetic performances. 15 Oct 07 - 09:19 AM (#2171493) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: Pete_Standing Nope. There is a ban on taking drinks (including my favoured flask of cocoa) into the Holywell Music Room - unless of course, the band has some cocoa and digestives in the green room and they invite me in - they could do with some help tuning their guitars anyway. Is there a concession for old gits, like cheaper tickets and finishing early. |
15 Oct 07 - 09:49 AM (#2171516) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: Mrs_Annie Well we are going to attempt to find Acton in the wilds of Suffolk - wish us luck. |

We might be able to sort out refreshments, I'll ask a few people. Regarding tickets, concessions are £5 for anyone who is an old/disabled/child/student person. They can be bought here- http://www.wegottickets.com/event/21114 I would advise anyone who is going to get them now, as tickets are selling well, and on the door they will be £10. The north gigs were playing are Skipton, N Yorkshire...Derby Assembly Rooms...and Burton upon trent- Brewtown folk club. I hope to see some friendly faces, all the best Dave |

21 Oct 07 - 06:59 PM (#2176110) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: Giant Folk Eyeball (inactive) Grrr. You lot never come to Manchester. Anyone out there run a short course in how to promote gigs without ending up skint? Cheers Nigel |
21 Oct 07 - 07:17 PM (#2176124) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: The Borchester Echo Nigel, you should have made the short leap across the Pennines to Skipton last night where they did a gig in a cattle market. I'm just in from seeing them at the Plough where I was genuinely stunned by the complexity, innate appropriateness and beauty of the arrangements behind Jim's glorious voice. I hadn't seen either the band or Mr C for several months . . . and how they have worked on their set. Their collective stage presentation has come on in leaps and bounds and the empathy between Alex Goldsmith's melodeon and Jamie Delarre's fiddle is just achingly glorious. Wood/Cutting-like though that's not in any way to suggest it's copyist. Yes, promote a tour and publicise it well. You won't end up skint. (Or if you do, you won't care). |
21 Oct 07 - 08:17 PM (#2176150) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: Giant Folk Eyeball (inactive) You're right, Diane, Skipton's not that far. Sadly I was visiting the in laws in Cambridge. Ho hum, better luck next time! Inciently, don't you just love these young traditional musicians for whom 'professional' isn't a dirty word? Cheers Nigel |
22 Oct 07 - 08:23 AM (#2176325) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: The Borchester Echo Just one reason why you should all flock to the remaining dates on this tour: Dave Delarre performing Eric Roche's Roundabout on YouTube. |
23 Oct 07 - 04:11 AM (#2177061) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: Mrs_Annie He didn't do that on Friday, he said YouTube is now full of other people doing it! "you should all flock to the remaining dates on this tour" yes you should, I am scheming to see if I can get to another one. |
23 Oct 07 - 07:53 AM (#2177152) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: Pete_Standing Saw 'em last night at Oxford and it was a very nice evening culminating with a session at the Half Moon. Rather than clog up the disks here, I have been coerced into writing a report over at TalkAwhile. Give the lads your support, they deserve it and you can say you saw them on the way up - the turn out last night was disappointing. |
23 Oct 07 - 02:15 PM (#2177458) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: Alio And the band are headlining at Saddleworth next year on the Friday night (July 18th) - I played a track from their demo CD on the radio last night, and they sounded brill! Ali x |
23 Oct 07 - 02:46 PM (#2177488) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: Giant Folk Eyeball (inactive) Yaay! That's nearly Manchester. Bugger! That's nearly a year away... Cheers Nigel |
24 Oct 07 - 07:06 AM (#2177957) Subject: RE: Mawkin:Causley - schedule of performances From: GUEST,StephenW Nigel, You should get down to Derby on Saturday. I'm in your neck of the woods and, hopefully, shall be going down by train, it's not that far. When you live in Manchester you have to do a bit of travelling to get to rootsy-type gigs 'cos there's not much in the city centre... Stephen |
