Rick (Fielding), I hope you see this. You mentioned this song in relation to the CO tragedy. I looked for it in the DT and found others by Bob, but not this one. I'd really love to read the words. I didn't put this in the other thread because it is getting so long and because it sounds as though it needs a thread of it's own.

Thanks and I'll talk to you tonight!

The song "WHEN ALL THY NAMES ARE ONE" by my friend Bob Zentz (note the "Z") has helped me several times this week. I'll be happy to post the lyrics in my very non-computer-like way. Tonight on the "Acoustic Workshop" I'll sing it live. If you want to hear the program on line, just go to CIUT's web-site and you can hook up. It's 9-10pm Toronto time.
WHEN ALL THY NAMES ARE ONE
    (Bob Zentz)

I'll begin tomorrow, I'll be on my way.
Thy light, thy will be done
Bid farewell to sorrow I'll be on my way.
When all thy names are one.

    CHORUS
When all thy names are one, oh lord, when all thy names are one.
Bid farewell to sorrow, I'll be on my way.
When all thy names are one.

For those who long for the days gone by....thy light...
And for those who stare at a starry sky. Where all....

    chorus: Where all thy.....

The whole world round, they shall praise thy name...
In a thousand tongues, tho they sound the same...

We all live in one building, though some preach of doom...
Why must all thy children dwell in separate rooms...

We all drink the same water from the same deep well...
Why must one soul's heaven be another's hell.

Arghh, must learn to do this with the cut and paste, or whatever it's called. Believe me folks I'm tryin to learn the computer!
Bob has recorded this on his album "It's About Time". available from Folk-Legacy (1-800-836-0901)

On tonight's radio show, mudcat's very own katlaughing will be calling in from Wyoming to talk about "another" sort of May Day celebration.

Rick! Thank you very much! That was a lot of fun! Your program, voice, and pickin' are wonderful!

MudPhoaks, if you haven't heard Rick, you owe it to yourself to tune in.

Rick, this song was so appropriate for the Colorado tragedy. I sat and cried, listening to you sing it. Good thing you did it after I called; I couldn't have spoken after hearing that.

Thanks,

Thanks Kat, we got a few calls a little later on asking the name of the book you recommended and of course I'd forgotten it! If you let me know, I'll pass it on.

Bob Zentz is a much underrated musician and songwriter and I urge folks to check him out.

Hi, Rick, it was The Spiral Dance by Starhawk.

If Bob is interested he should see if Unity would add his song to their new hymnal. I heard they were coming out with one this year; don't know what stage the process is in, but my sister is one-step away from being a full-fledged minister for them, heard his song and immediately thought the same thing I did....it should be one of their standards. It's Unity School of Christianity in Lee's Summit, MO, just outside of Kansas City.

Thanks,

Sorry, bet, didn't mean to finger you. It is our other sister, Rebecca, who is a Unity teacher.

Bob Zentz certainly deserves to be better known. His tune, Beaucatcher's Farewell, is one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard. He is an engaging performer, good writer, and has had a tremendous impact on folk and traditional music in the Tidewater region of Virginia. One of the things I've missed most by moving from the area is Bob's performances and the festivals and concerts he promoted.

I notice that there are several Bob Zentz cassettes at Folk-Legacy. Wish they were available on CD.
Say, Rick, is there any chance your computer knowledge has advanced to the point where you might be able to post a tune? I have most of the tune in my head - I guess you must have done it at your Washington concert last month, eh?
Rick, would I be better off asking if your charming and intelligent sidekick Heather might be able to post the tune????

My computer knowledge has advanced to the point where if I see the word "Chernobyl", I run to the basement and sing Gospel songs. I'll ask her Joe.

Say, Rick, now that your computer skills have improved, do you think you (or anybody) can post a complete, singable version of the lyrics and maybe even the tune for this wonderful song? Is the title right, or is it "When All Thy Names Are One"?
I think it's a song that would be good for all of us right now.

God bless Bob Zentz,

Yes he is underrated, because he's understated. Bob clearly loves to learn new instruments, loves to play, and loves to sing. I'm sure he would do it all if no one paid him. I go out of my way to see him.

The only YouTube recording of this song that I found was this impressive bluegrass performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdbWpKSZMwM

Can anybody find one that's closer to the "folk tradition"?

When All Thy Names Are One
From It's About Time
Music and lyrics © 1992 Bob Zentz

1. I’ll begin tomorrow, I’ll be on my way (D-D-G-D)
Thy light, thy will be done (D-D-A-A7)
Bid farewell to sorrow, I will sing and pray (D-Bm-G-D)
When all thy names are one (D-G-D-A-D)

(Chorus)

When all thy names are one, oh Lord (D-G-D-D
When all thy names are one (G-G-D-A7)
(sing third line of previous verse) (D-Bm-G-D)
When all thy names are one (D-G-D-A-D)

2. For those who long for the days gone by
Thy light, thy will be done
And for those who stare at the starry sky
Where all thy names are one (chorus – “where” instead of “when”)

3. The whole world ‘round, they shall praise thy name
Thy light, thy will be done
In a thousand tongues, yet they sound the same
When all thy names are one (chorus)

4. We all live in one building though some preach of doom
Thy light, thy will be done
Why must all thy children dwell in separate rooms?
When all thy names are one (chorus)

We all drink the water from the same deep well
Thy light, thy will be done
Why must one man’s heaven be another’s hell?
When all thy names are one (chorus)
