20 Oct 07 - 08:01 AM (#2175210) Subject: The Witches of Elswick - final dates From: GUEST,Bryony Well, the time has nearly come for the Witches to hang up our broomsticks for ever!! After 6 rather mad years of zooming round the UK festivals and clubs, we're finally calling it a day. It was easy to get about and rehearse when we all lived in the same flat and had little other responsibility, but families, husbands, proper jobs, mortgages and the distance between us geographically have made it increasingly difficult to get together over the last year or so...so we decided to quit while we're ahead and while we're still enjoying it rather than fizzle out. We have just 8 gigs left together which includes our final Hallowe'en tour: Sunday 28th October - The Halfpenny Folk Club, The Greyhound Inn, Oldwalls, Llanrhidian, Gower, Wales 8.30pm 01792 850803 www.halfpennyfolkclub.com Monday 29th October - Cheltenham Town Hall (With Nancy Kerr & James Fagan) Cheltenham Town Hall Imperial Square Cheltenham GL50 1QA £13.50, £12.50 concessions 8pm www.cheltenhamtownhall.org.uk 01242 227979 Tuesday 30th October - National Theatre Foyer London South Bank, London SE1 9PX 5.45pm Free entry www.nationaltheatre.org.uk Wednesday 31st October - Hallowe'en Special at The Magpie's Nest, Upstairs at The Old Queens Head 44 Essex Road, Islington, London N1 8LN £6 www.themagpiesnest.co.uk theoldqueenshead.com Friday 2nd November - Bacca Pipes Folk Club, (NB off site venue) St.Anne's Social Club, Spring Gardens Lane (corner of North Street), Keighley, West Yorkshire BD20 6LH £5 8.30pm www.baccapipes.org.uk 01535 605310 Saturday 3rd November - Ty Siamas (National Centre for Welsh Folk Music), Ty Meirion, Eldon Square, Dolgellau, Gwynedd, LL40 1PU 8pm £8 www.tysiamas.com 01341421800 Then our final booked gig in maghull: Saturday 10th November - Maghull Day of Music (plus various artists) Maghull Town Hall, Hall Lane, Maghull, Merseyside, L31 7BB 1.30pm - 11.30pm Day tickets £14 0150 531 9273 www.maghullfolkclub.btinternet.co.uk/mfcDayofMusic.html Then......it's PARTY TIME! Our final gig ever will be in the style of a celebratory party at The Cumberland Arms, Byker where we started out as young, innocent witchlets! Little did we know that that was the start of a six year, 2 album rollercoaster of tours and festivals......we just liked singing and somehow people started booking us! Anyway, the details of this final gig are: Saturday 24th November - Final Farewell gig/party at The Cumberland Arms, Ouseburn, Byker, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, NE6 1LD Newcastle-upon-tyne, NE6 1LD 0191 2656151 8pm £7/£5concession www.thecumberlandarms.co.uk So come and help us hang up our broomsticks in style with fizzy plonk, songs and good cheer in the wonderful environment of The Cumberland Arms. Be there...it's your last chance EVER!! We're still going to be singing together as Witchnotes (7-part a cappella with Grace Notes) and most of us will still perform under our various other guises, but for the Witches....that's all folks! So, huge thanks to everyone who's supported us in one way or another...we've met some fantastic people over the years and we hope to see you somewhere soon. Cheers, Becky, Bryony, Fay & Gillie The Witches of Elswick xxxx |

All the best with your various diversified lives and I'm look forward to seeing you individually if not collectively around the festivals. My abiding memory will be of that Sunday morning church service at Dartmoor - four witches singing like angels in the pew right behind us! Anahata |

And how you planned to nick it and take it home with you (when 'home' was West Newcastle). See you on the South Bank on the 30th. |
