Robert plant is teaming up with a bluegrass fiddler. Last Easter I was learning Old Time fiddle alongside John Paul Jones at Sore Fingers, who also turns out to be a really good bluegrass mandolin player. I blame global warming.... Ray |

CMT-TV (country music, cable) has been running a really good series called "Crossroads" where a country artist and a rock artist who mutually admire one another's work team up, bands and all, for a 1-hour special. The program includes rehearsal footage and brief interviews where each talks about how the other has influenced them. The several I have seen have been pretty good-- synergies. One of the artists usually has gotten the ball rolling to name and sometimes solicit another genre's artists to participate. In some cases, the way they've done each other's songs has, IMO, surpassed the original. It's not so crazy-- don't we folkies have at least one "Guilty Pleasures" thread, and have eclectic tastes in our car CDs? ~Susan |

The voices work well together, who takes lead is sometimes counter-intuitive but as a wholw it works. It's been well produced and the band is in good form. In an era when so many rock bands are doing 30/35 year anniversary tours, not having been a working band for half of those years, (yes I know Zep are playing the O2 Arena) it's good to see one of that generation not stuck in a time warp and doing something new. Also Plant comes accross as a thoughtful and creative person not the howler monkey I'd always thought him to be. (Though I must admit there were numbers he did in that mode which I secretly enjoyed.) One thing was a little scary. Ms Krause sang a song (I didn't catch the title, unfortunately) sort of bluesy, and she sounded like Janis Joplin (or maybe her ghost). CB |

Haven't felt the need to investigate further. We've been to this venue a few times over a lifetime with some great concerts (Joni Mitchell/Persuasions - 1983, Arlo Guthrie - 2012). Sad to say, the show was quite forgettable. Glad these talented musicians are getting a payday (I'm all for that). As for the music .... it all sounded like Middle of the Road Pop Music. oh well voyager |
