I think these two fine chaps are featured on next saturday's 'The Culture show' 7pm - ish on BBC2.
Check the Radio Times for details. 'Other listing magazines are available'

Alison ain't no chap, Paco. She is a darned fine looking fiddle playing woman. How these two linked up is way beyond me.
One screams like a pterodactyl and the other sings sweet as a bird.

I've heard a bit of the album, and it's pretty damn good.

I heard 'Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)' on Terry Wogan's show yesterday and thought it was excellent. I believe it is being released as a single.

Anything produced by T-Bone Burnett can't be all bad.

Have they actually done an album together? I haven't heard. It is a strange match up...!

From what I have heard it works quite well, they create a sound that comes off like neither of their prior recordings. It is also receiving rave reviews.

Well, Robert Plant has a great rock and blues sound and I think Allison probably could match up with anyone. I'll have to look for this. I like unique and interesting matches.

Well it's a strange thing that seems to be happening. Robert plant is teaming up with a bluegrass fiddler. Last Easter I was learning Old Time fiddle alongside John Paul Jones at Sore Fingers, who also turns out to be a really good bluegrass mandolin player.
I blame global warming....

It's a wonderful album, their voices are very natural together. It's gonna sell like crazy and will be the rare pop record I actually buy.

Good on 'em.

Peace, Mooh.

These sorts of collaborations are not brand-new. CMT-TV (country music, cable) has been running a really good series called "Crossroads" where a country artist and a rock artist who mutually admire one another's work team up, bands and all, for a 1-hour special.

The program includes rehearsal footage and brief interviews where each talks about how the other has influenced them. The several I have seen have been pretty good-- synergies. One of the artists usually has gotten the ball rolling to name and sometimes solicit another genre's artists to participate. In some cases, the way they've done each other's songs has, IMO, surpassed the original.

It's not so crazy-- don't we folkies have at least one "Guilty Pleasures" thread, and have eclectic tastes in our car CDs?

It's a good album IMHO. The voices work well together, who takes lead is sometimes counter-intuitive but as a wholw it works. It's been well produced and the band is in good form.

In an era when so many rock bands are doing 30/35 year anniversary tours, not having been a working band for half of those years, (yes I know Zep are playing the O2 Arena) it's good to see one of that generation not stuck in a time warp and doing something new.

All the best

Steve

Heard them on NPR and (as stated above) they sound great!! Also Plant comes accross as a thoughtful and creative person not the howler monkey I'd always thought him to be. (Though I must admit there were numbers he did in that mode which I secretly enjoyed.)

One thing was a little scary. Ms Krause sang a song (I didn't catch the title, unfortunately) sort of bluesy, and she sounded like Janis Joplin (or maybe her ghost).

I understand that Robert Plant is an avid reader of Froots magazine - good for him! Alison is a lovely lady and a fine singer and musician - congratulations to both of them.

I followed the YouTube link, then played a few other videos of collaborations Alison Krauss has done. Found this. Magical!

John Creedon is playing them right now on RTE radio. Halleluia--sounds good ('cept it reminds me of a cremation I was at last week where that song was played).

The Grammy machine recognized quality this this year by awarding 5 Grammys to this collaboration, well deserved IMO.

Perhaps an officer of Mudcat can correct the spelling in the subject header to render it searchable.

Well, I dunno. I heard their version of Killin' the Blues which is an excellent song and it left me cold. Haven't felt the need to investigate further. I wonder instead how much of a profile comes from their pedigrees rather than the quality of the recording and performances.

I didn't watch the show and see the performance but I have the CD and like it very much. All a matter of individual taste I guess.

I bought the album - some good stuff on it (IMO), but some of it didn't get to me. "Gone, Gone, Gone" is a great track - the best on the album in my view. Still, it's an interesting collaboration.

Having T-Bone Burnett as producer helped a lot... he has a unique rootsy approach... seemed to be the right chemistry all around...

Plant's been experimenting with different music styles for years, and Kraus has been pushing her horizons lately...
good on them

There were 10,000 people at the Alison Krause/Robert Plant concert last night. We've been to this venue a few times over a lifetime with some great concerts (Joni Mitchell/Persuasions - 1983, Arlo Guthrie - 2012).
Sad to say, the show was quite forgettable. Glad these talented musicians are getting a payday (I'm all for that). As for the music .... it all sounded like Middle of the Road Pop Music.

oh well
