Moira Craig, Carolyn Robson and Sarah Morgan are doing an all-day vocal harmony workshop on Saturday 10th. November and an all-day ballad forum on Sunday 11th. November at the Lewes Arms, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 1YH. They also perform at the Lewes Arms Folk Club on the Saturday evening.

Booking forms for the workshops and for evening tickets can be printed from the club's website http://www.lewesarmsfolkclub.org/.

It helps if people coming to the ballad forum can choose a ballad in advance to sing and talk about so that we get a good variety. These are the ballads chosen so far - it's promising to be a fascinating day:

Binnorie (version of Twa Sisters)

Brown Robin

Clerk Colvin

Demon Lover

Dives & Lazarus

Flying Cloud

Holland Handkerchief

Lady Diamond

Lankin
Laszlo Feyer

Lord Bateman

Mary Hamilton

Redesdale & Wise William

Sheath & Knife

Sir Lionel

Sir Patrick Spens

Tam Lin

Tyne of Harrow

Unquiet Grave (Sussex version)

The Well Below The Valley

Willie's Fatal Visit

Tootle pip,

Valmai (Lewes)

Have you got the words for "Tootle Pip"?

I rather fancy it's complete in itself. The Cut 'n Paste Fairy has struck again.

What ho,

Valmai

Can't wait for the day when I can transport down to any place on earth in seconds. For now, I have to miss this one.
Enjoy!

Here you go, MO:
Who's a pretty boy then?
Your girlfriend says when she's got you wearing a tie
You're looking like a puff and you think I've had enough
Stop and take a look at yourself for a while
And you'll know it's time to say
[Chorus:]
Cheerio, cheerio
Toodle pip, toodle pip
This is our last goodbye
Don't cry
Cheerio, cheerio
Toodle pip, toodle pip
Our last farewell, goodbye.
Sitting watching Coronation street
You decide to put your feet up, just about comfy in your seat
And she says, I'm feeling hungry
If she sends you out for a bag of fish'n'chips
You'll know it is time to say...
[Chorus]
Need a bit of shut eye so you lie on the couch
She is yapping in the background
Baby's things wedding rings
It's not for you, she will never keep her mouth shut
You have to tell her now, once and for all
Coz now it's time to say...
[Chorus]

Now explain to me how that fits the criteria of a ballad!

Don't worry, it won't be on the performing list. Actually, if anyone is in doubt about what might count as a ballad for these purposes, have a word in private.

Tootle and for ever pip,

Valmai
