Help:music for an Anniversary slide show

Looking for suggestions for a song to put with a slide show for our parent's 60th anniversary. Doesn't have to be folk. Kenny Rogers "Through the Years" is the only thing we have found so far. Would be very nice to have some other choices.

Many thanks.

Do they have an 'our song'?
Another idea might be a medley of songs from each decade. What sort of music do they like?

If they have a sense of humor, "You're Timeless To Me" from the musical "Hairspray." It's right on point, sung by an old married couple (both played by men), but not exactly your romantic ballad. Sample lyric: "You're fat and old, but baby, boring you aint!"

Old Thread that might help. I think there are some others as well if you can run them down with some ideas.

Gotta' go to town.....I'll check in later........I like Jeri's idea about the stages/decades thing.

Songs from their era would be memorable. Here are a couple:

"As Time Goes By" from the movie Casablanca

"Thanks For The Memories" Bob Hopes' theme song

"Froggy Went A-Courtin'"
Probably the "Here's To Cheschire, Here's To Cheese" version.

I would recommend one of the most beautiful love songs ever penned,

Ewan MacColl's "The First Time Ever I Saw your Face"The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the night and the empty skies my love
To the night and the empty skies

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth turn in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command my love
That was there at my command

The first time ever I lay with you
And felt your heart beat close to mine
I thought our joy would fill the earth
And would last till the end of time my love
And would last till the end of time

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the night and the empty skies my love
To the night and the empty skies

If someone has a stash of Sinatra recordings, dig out this one, it's wonderful.

Time After Time

Writer(s): cahn/styne

What good are words I say to you?
They can't convey to you what's in my heart
If you could hear instead
The things I've left unsaid

Time after time
I tell myself that i'm
So lucky to be loving you

So lucky to be
The one you run to see
In the evening, when the day is through

I only know what I know
The passing years will show
You've kept my love so young, so new

And time after time
You'll hear me say that i'm
So lucky to be loving you

My Blue Heaven
Rhapsody in Blue
If Ever I Would Leave You (from Camelot)
Silver Threads Among the Gold
Hello My Honey, (Ragtime Gal)
Songs played at their wedding/reception
Any of the Top 10 Hits the year they were married. Should be easy to

Was either of them in the military? Whatever 'service' song is appropriate.

Subject: LYR ADD: Could I have this dance - Anne Murray
From: katlaughing

I've always liked this one by Anne Murray:

Could I Have This Dance

I'll always remember the song they were playin',
The first time we danced and I knew,
As we swayed to the music and held to each other,
I fell in love with you.

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together, it feels so right.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?

I'll always remember that magic moment,
When I held you close to me.
'Cause we moved together, I knew forever,
You're all I'll ever need

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together, it feels so right.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?

Repeat Chorus

one I use regularly on wedding videos which usually have a slide show sequence (eg a la Nero) is
Salur d'Amour (Elgar) it was a love song to his wife (discuss).
the advantage is that without words people can comment - and they will.
The length is about right but if you do more slides than I would - consider Chanson de Matin (Elgar) it has the same feel. They were, in effect, Elgar's first hits. He sold them for about 100 which was a fair amount of money.

Thanks for the many ideas. Now that we are both home from the Getaway we'll get busy with some of them!
