05 Nov 07 - 09:05 AM (#2186725) Subject: Review: Alcester Folk Festival needs your help. From: Green Man Greetings, As all us Brits know, last years festival season was more of a monsoon than a summer idyll. The wet caused punters to stay away in droves and consequently our finances took a beating. I know that several festivals are in the same boat (geddit?) and, some alas are not going to run in 08 because of it. We need more cash so we are holding an extra event. It will be at the Grieg Centre in Alcester just like the main festival. The difference is that there will be indoor camping at the sports hall opposite the festival site (with showers and toilets) and there will be limited space for camper-vans and caravans. Here is a link Alcester Folk Festival Some of you will notice a change in the link, this is because we are a not for profit ORG. all monies are reinvested in the festival. Of course this year it means that little money will be invested unless we can GET SOME! That's where you come in. Come to the weekend, buy a ticket, or come and perform for those who buy tickets. Contact details will be on the new website probably tonight or Tuesday night. Help in any form will be appreciated. Have a good week. Green Man |

05 Nov 07 - 09:56 AM (#2186752) Subject: RE: Review: Alcester Folk Festival needs your help. From: Snuffy Although the Alcester Folk Festival in June is renowned for numerous free fringe events, the mini-festival in February is basically a fund-raising event to ensure the future of June festivals. Therefore I don't imagine that the committee will be giving much (if any) priority to events that do not contribute financially. However, if anyone would like to put in a tender for a singaround franchise, I'm sure we'd look carefully at the highest bid! :-)) |
05 Nov 07 - 12:23 PM (#2186850) Subject: RE: Review: Alcester Folk Festival needs your help. From: The Unicorn Man I will bid £11 then. |

So I goes looking in the diary to see what I'm doing that weekend... Doh! Playing Dave's club! (And I'm at Shammic on the Sat which rather rules out a daytime spot as it's a fair drive... unless you'd like to reschedule the BTMC gig, Dave)? Tom |

05 Nov 07 - 07:37 PM (#2187163) Subject: RE: Review: Alcester Folk Festival needs your help. From: Snuffy We are aware that it clashes with several "can't miss" folk events, and in an ideal world we might have chosen a different date. (In a really ideal world we wouldn't have needed to hold the fundraising event anyway!) Unfortunately that weekend was the only time that the venue was available, and beggars can't be choosers. |

Caught up with some old freinds, made many new ones. Lovely venue, faultless organisation, good on-site grub, cheap beer (against London prices anyway!) Super concerts, (we really enjoyed ours ;o)), brilliant sound; I know everyone says that at the time, but it really was, thanks Laurence, and real quality at the sing-arounds. Well done Dave and Marge! |

Great line-up & a goodly portion of the Alcester Wall of Sound (TM) seems to have come too. Was also great to hear Dave actually perform at an Alcesterfest. Can only echo what ref said - & have to add Kudos (as the kids say) to Moses & him for a truly festival-standard suicide shift this morning. Now off to bathe tonsils in Scotch Linament, as I seem to have a bit of a crackle in the throat :D |
