My contacts directed me to folk song collector and singer Kali Dasgupta. When I returned to Australia in 2001 I started building a website to help make Kali's work better known ... http://kalidasgupta.com/ Seven years later (and 2 years after Kali died) the site has the contents of five CDs that have been made of Kali and others singing about 90 of the thousands of songs that Kali collected in Eastern India cheers Mark -- http://unionsong.com/ |

I knew him when he lived in London back in the sixties and was lucky enough to hear him sing on several occasions, mainly at the Singers Club. More recently, I have met one of his pupils, Stan Scott, who was a friend of my late friend and neighbour, Tom Munnelly. Stan wrote an interesting (short) article on Indian music, entitled 'Brown Ale and Black Tea', which mentions his work with Kali. We published it in a festschrift called' Dear Far-Voiced Veteran - Essays in Honour of Tom Munnelly'. I will search out your web-site with interest. Good luck, Jim Carroll |
