Bet & Kat need a name for performing! Help!

Well, okay, we've been inspired; remembered how fun it was to make music, and it's all your fault, Mudcateers!**Big Grin**!!!

So, we've taken the plunge and told the Wyoming Culture Fest, June 12, Casper, WY (I'm one of the organisers) that we and possibly our two sisters, will do a few songs that we already know. So, they asked what we were going to call ourselves, the Hudson Sisters!?LOL!!

We knew we could be a little more creative than that, so put our thinking caps on (uh-oh!). Then bet says, "Let's ask the Mudcatters for suggestions!" So....here we are, asking. We've no special agenda, look, or type, except we're natives of Colorado and had ranching grandparents etc. We do harmonize really well. Now...the floor is yours, please suggest away!

katlaughing, well, maybe there's something in that: katlaughing and better-bet?:-)

You know, kat & bet, I think it'd help if you gave us some quirky/idiosyncratic info about yourselves and your music. At the moment my mind is a complete blank but I would really enjoy tossing some ideas around if you just told us a little about the sort of tunes/songs you are doing, the instruments you play, some identifiable info which makes you different from other people - as far as music performing goes.

Hey, bet, how about Mountain Mudders, at least you and I are mothers! I like Max's, Bert, thanks.

Helen, we will mostly sing. bet will have to tell you more about the songs. She'll probably play her baritone uke and/or fiddle. I might play my fiddle. There may two or four of us, all sisters. We are definitely not youngsters and definetly Phoaks, so maybe Phoaksters, no wait a minute, this just came to me, how about

The Phoak/Folk Sisters

???

Too plain? Can't think of idiosyncracies of the top of my head, but do feel we're all about half-crazy!:-)Present company excepted, bet!

Can't think of anything else right now. Thanks everyone.

Do you know that the surnames Webster, Brewster, and Baxter are the female names for Webber (weaver), Brewer, and Baker, i.e. occupational names. They derive from Web-sister, Brew-sister, and Bake-sister. Spinster comes from Spin-sister, but then it took on the unmarried female meaning as well. Maybe you can build on that idea somehow.

Maybe Spin-sisters, (kind of similar to spin-doctors)?

Or how about Uke-an-fiddle (you can fiddle)?

Or Fiddle-Faddle? (Is this just an Oz term? It means nonsense, balderdash, etc)

The Ukelele Ladies - remember that old song?

Up the Creek Without a Fiddle?

Umm - I think I'd better go to bed...*grin*

Golly Kat, it's hard to come up with names. First ya gotta decide "Am I goin' for "cute" or "witty"? (ie. Casper's Phrendly Phoaks) Then you start realising that half your audience won't get the joke. If you go for for sincere and descriptive (ie. "Windy Mt. Family Band") it sort of sounds like the Von Trapps with banjos. You could go with "Cool Hand Uke", or buy that darned instrument that's still hangin on the wall here in Toronto and be the "Tipling Sisters". Or how about a little contemporary "punk"? "Too Cool to Strum". or "Scruggs ate My Uke".

Better get outta here 'fore I do some real damage.

I think my favorite so far is Bet the Ranch.

Bet the Kat

B and D, or Bea and Dee (a minor third and a sexual practice. You might have to change your initial, Kat. The Germans go up to H, but I don't know of any note called K.)

Hermony (that must have been done)

Nose to the Rhinestone (that was just free association, and it might have nothing to do with any of you)

Bet's Got Your Tongue, Bet's Nine Lives, Bet in the Hat--maybe there's a version of that that isn't as lame as the above, or that works if your other sisters participate.

Our Children's Aunts. Okay, it's a little weird.

Since you live in Colorado, site of the recent tragedy, and since the name Columbine denotes "a branching herb of the crowfoot family having handsome, colorful flowers", the name The Colorado Columbines, or just The Columbines, in honor of the victims comes to mind. Kat and Bet. Now what's it gonna be? You've got a heck of a lot of choices here, and "enquiring minds want to know". My vote goes to "Mudders with Udders". (can't remember who suggested it)

Whatever you choose I've found a great theme song for you. It's called "Mystic Cowgirls of the Prarie". It's funny as all get out. It's about a posse of vegetarian cowgirls who ride the rage liberating steers. It's written by my friend Joe Hall who in my opinion is the finest songwriter on the planet. Don't worry, you've never heard of him..Canadian artists don't get much distribution in the U.S.

I was kidding about "Mudders with...."

Up until this darn diet thng, which is working, I could have BEEN that mystic cowgirl!!! Still could, cause I still don't "do" beef!!!! Heck, if your friend doesn't mind, let's throw that name into the ring, too!!!

I promise I will tear bet away from the Rockies and we'll try to agree on one or another. I like Mudders alot, with or without the udders! Hehehehe

I was kinds hoping Karespaw might get a suggestion from old 'Spaw, but didn't want to burden him with it when i tlaked with him today. what a great call!

I've been keeping out of this, 'cos I can't visualise you, only audiolise, but have been visited by two thoughts. One - due to the choir outside my window this morning - is Katsong. Does that last idea read badly, does it fall into the transatlantic, you can't see my face or hear my voice trap? It suddenly occurs to me that some people may have a negative attitude to the musical sounds emanating from felines. Which is not what I meant (my fingers tried to type mewnt) at all. Bad idea, then.

Gotta admit Kat, it's a good name. If you hit it big and you need a back-up band it can be "Folk-Fyre and the little Embers". Now back to the costumes: I favour a sort of "Xena" style, with steel breast-plates and thonged boots, and no tipples showing!
