Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March 2008, Whitby

09 Jan 08 - 06:25 AM (#2231872)
Subject: RUNSWICK BAY RESCUE BOAT
From: Raggytash

Once again it's time to tell all you good people about the annual fund raiser for the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat.
This year it will be held on Friday 28th March at the Friendship Rowing Club in Whitby, same format as always if it ain't broke don't fix it.
If anyone would like to donate a raffle prize it would be much appreciated and as always Christine and I will provide a supper for which we will extract as much money as we can from you, normal methods will apply, namely gripping reluctants by the ankles and shaking them till their pockets are empty!

See you there

Cheers

Nick & Christine

Hi Raggy,

What is the "same format as always"?.....

Thanks

Paul

Basically we go round the room in turn, each person either singing or leading a tune. We do however frown a little on 17 verse dirges and try to keep to the night as up-tempo as possible. We hold a raffle and I make some sort of supper for which we ask donations. All revenue generated is donated to the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat which is not sponsored by the RNLI and has to raise all its own funds. We have been hosting fund raisers for over ten yeras now and last year with the help of all the wonderful people who attend raised £900, a phenomenal amount. Have a look at www.runswickrescue.org.uk

Cheers

Nick

Thanks Nick,

We'll try and make it in that case, if you pm me an address we'll definitely donate a copy of Wendy's CD (includes "The Visitor", I know this was the Whitby lifeboat but still seems appropriate!) as a raffle prize.....that'll have em queuing for tickets then (ahem)......

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul
I'm the guy that Wendy met in the Endeavour last year and pestered her for the words. She very kindly sent them to me for which I am very grateful it is a brilliant song, however I was very remiss and did not contact her to say thank-you. Would you be kind enough to pass on my thanks to her

Cheers

Nick,

Yes I thought you were! I will pass on your thanks but if we make it on the 28th March (baby sitter dependent!) you can thank her in person!

She'll be thrilled with your kind words.

Gnomad, thanks for the thought but we never set targets for fund raising, if we get £50 it's £50 more than the Rescue Boat would have had. Admittedly last years £900 was amazing but I wouldn't dare hope to repeat that never mind better it.

I love seeing this thread every year. The work is dangerous at times and no call out is ever routine. Takes good hearts and lots of training--even for situation that may never happen. I have a mild fear of water, so anyone who would willingly get in a boat makes me gape. To get in a boat and face 10' breakers just to get off shore makes me scratch my head in amazement. They are very brave souls, although I know they'd never think of themselves in that manner. Gotta love guys and gals who put it on the line for others. It's the ultimate in courage, imo. Please pass on my thanks to them all.

Hi Chris ..........small contingent from Huddersfield ..........yes Dozy Rosy has lost loads of weight recently ......... too much I think !!!

Sorry !!!............ that's me for a battering !!!

Anything that helps raise funds would be much appreciated, with Sue from the Black Horse I'm going to resurrect an old tradition in Whitby by putting Carlin's on the bar on Carlin Sunday with donations going to the Rescue Boat

Oh man! you are going to be in so much trouble from Dozy Rosy. I doubt that you will survive the RBRB night!!
In defence of Dozy Rozy,I'm sorry, but you should be chastised.
It is probably acceptable to make such personal comments about someone in private but not in a public forum like this.
You have over stepped the mark and you most likely deserve to be battered.
I can't speak for the rest of the Huddersfield contingent but on second thoughts I think I might just decide to steer clear of this event and also withdraw my offer of free greeting cards (worth well over £100) because of your insensitive comment on this thread.
Sometimes it is worth engaging brain before spouting off at the mouth.
Shame on you Nick!

I soak them, then boil a pestle, use the fluid off that to cook the peas in, add the meat off the pestle and make them into a kind of soup.

28 Jan 08 - 02:25 AM (#2246740)
Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby
From: ossonflags

Thanks Les you can also get them at that little shop down South Street in 'ull .

I have always had/done them more of a dry way; soaked and boiled longer than mushy peas, when soft fry them in butter or dripping and just before serving shove a large glug of vinegar amd bit of salt in the pan, you will find this will evaporate very quickly.

What is a pestle?

Subject: RE: Runswick Bay Rescue Boat - 28 March, Whitby

Pestle ............... Ham Shank, yours is the traditional Yorkshire way to do them, mine is my own take on it but very nice all the same!

Might do some for the Rescue Boat night which as we all know is Friday 28 March 2008 at the Friendship Rowing Club, Church Street Whitby

It will be nice to see everyone at the lifeboat do.Soldier boy, you are my sunshine.

In parts of Canada we have pestle parties. We drink 'til midnight and pestle dawn.

Don't know this for sure but I think cherubs can actually do without boats, something tells me they can transport themselves in an aerial manner whereby they do not touch land or sea at all, could be wrong though. That little one I've got is still perched on the lightshade above the bed and won't come down, the other one is still in dock healing a broken wing

This Sunday, 9th March, Sue Rae (Landlady of the Black Horse, Whitby) and I are to resurrect an old Whitby tradition of Carlin Sunday. I'll be providing the Carlins and singing. Sue will be doing the rest, all monies raised from selling the Carlins will go to the Rescue Boat .............. so if you want to take part in an old Whitby tradition, sadly lost for some years, and have a song on Sunday afternoon come and join us at the Black Horse.

Hopefully Charliestu and Commander Crabbe are also lending their vocals chords and fingers for the afternoon so it should turn out to be a good one

Went up to Runswick yesterday to watch their weekly praactice session, handed to the treasurer a total of £1196, ONE THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY SIX POUNDS Is that good or is that absolutely bloody fantastic, a huge thank you to everyone. The Rescue Boat needs to raise about £8000 per annum to run so this is a massive boost to their coffers. Everyone involved with the boat is both thankful and bemused by our efforts.
As those who were at the session pn Saturday night know, we had a drawer for victims/volunteers to be "rescued" on Sunday morning, those "lucky" people seemed to have a great time all had huge smiles when returned to shore. I'll try and download some photographs as soon as possible.
Once again from all at Runswick THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU !!
