Cleethorpes Folk Festival 23/26 May 2008

Just starting this new thread on behalf of Robin Garside's post on the old Cleethorpes 2007 thread.

Hi,
I don't know if anyone will read this, but Cleethorpes Folk Festival 2008 is rising Phoenix-like from the flames of the Winter Gardens debacle and will be reborn from the 23rd to 26th of May this year! Anyone and everyone please visit www.folkfestival.f9.co.uk and book your tickets now to ensure a wealth of happy memories, great musical experiences, friendships to last a lifetime, and good laughs.

I have had such a good time there in the past, my kids have grown up with their years measured by 'Cleethorpeses', my wife has danced there as has my daughter, my son will be playing there this year, I'm so glad it's happening again.

But it's not about me and my family, it's about everyone who has contributed to this very special event over the years, whether performers, audience or organisers (especially organisers!)
Let's do it again!
Robin Garside.

Well done to the organisers.

Am I correct in remembering a specially superb fish and chip shop near to the Memorial Hall,(amongst a plethora of superb fish and chip shops?)

It's unfortunate but I can't go this year as it clashes with the International Sword Spectacular at York which is every 4 yrs. (I dance with Southport Swords). Good luck.
Cheers

Good Luck with this-regrettably clashes with the new Shanty thing in Beverley, but moreover with my birthday which is usually spent in a dimly lit room where I contemplate both mortality and Botox in equal measure. My Winter Garden experiences consist of great performances and weird smells -John Wright and a strange aroma of steak and kidney pie eminating from the strangely positioned cafe under the stage I seem to recall.

I only read this as a transplanted Meggie, but I'm pleased to see that enthusiasm is still rife in the Cleethorpes area.
Have a great time, all
Good Morning, Les.

Harassed by domestic circumstannces caused by laco of DIY ability at the moment. I'm actually leaving the house at night soon to see Jethro Tull at Carnegie Hall. I may remind Ian Anderson that he used to know me when I was poor (and that nowt's changed)

I'll be 38 on Wednesday, and can confirm that it's no age at all. :-)

Hi everybody
It's with much saddness that I write this - feels like an obituary. Due to incredibly low advance ticket sales , we have very reluctantly been forced to cancel this coming festival. We have in fact sold 100 tickets - previous year's about 400 at this point. To go ahead would be financially irresponsible and would leave artists unpaid etc. We would like to thank those of you who have purchased tickets and assure you that your monies will be repaid very shortly.

The future? - Well at present it's raw and we're all gutted - it's been a year of hard work finding venues, arguing with council, negotiating artists fees and putting together what would have been a GREAT FESTIVAL - can't think beyond that ... On the positive side, everybody we've contacted (artists, agents, sound etc.) have been very sympathetic and supportive. Thanks for that.

Sue and the team
