Isambarde in Leek 1st March 2008

Hi all! There will be a bit of a do at the Wilkes Head, 16 St Edward Street, Leek, Staffordshire, ST13 5DS on the 1st and 2nd March 2008. Big heated marquee and stage/p.a. in the yard, and acoustic sessions in the pub all weekend. Great beer from Whim Ales, among others. The pub is well known for its atmosphere and great craic. There will be a 'young musicians and singers' session in the bottom room of the pub too. Concert on the Saturday night (entry around £2.50) featuring showcased talent and (topping the bill) the utterly wonderful Isambarde! Anyone who has been to the summer 'do's' at the Wilkes; this is less 'rocky' and much more folky. No drumkit, small p.a, not using the big stage, and an acoustic sort of feel. Hope to see you there.
Tim

Watch out for the Landlord though, fully paid up head the ball, not bad on the old banjo and guitar despite that !
Hope the gig goes well and knowing Moggy large sums on money will be raised for a good cause

For those who haven't heard Isambarde yet, here's a link to their MySpace site, where there are four songs to listen to. Click on Isambarde myspace

I think these people are headed for great things, and are doing it without being hyped by the music industry.

Hi Mr Happy! If ever there was a leading question....but seriously; I don't think there is anywhere within walking distance, as it's a town centre pub. There are a number of caravan sites out of town on the Buxton road, but I'm not sure if they do camping. It would be nice to see you and the fiends though; it's going to be a right good do I think. I'll have a scout round and see what I can come up with.

Was it you lot I photographed at the Burntwood Underwater Folk Festival last year?
If it was, then I would recommend this gig!!

Camping details; this site is about 2 miles outside Leek, on the Buxton Road. Lots of facilities, open all year.

A bit more info; entry fee to the concert in the marquee on Saturday night will be £3. (Was going to be less, but the heaters and fuel cost more than we thought.) There will probably be a bonfire/brazier sort of thing elsewhere in the yard as well, for those who like a campfire sing. Most of the music will be unplugged, with various combinations of musicians and singers, plus Isambarde of course. Guests will include Jazz Geoff, who is a legend in the area; the funniest accountant on the planet. Hope to see you there.

Hope me & fiends can make it - told 'em again last night & they seemed enthusiastic.

Thanks for campsite info.

Just a refresh; this should be a cracking weekend, hope the weather is kind! For those with other interests; Leek is a centre for the antiques trade, has more real ale pubs per square mile than just about anywhere, and is the gateway for some great walks in the Staffordshire Moorlands and the White Peak. Hope to see you there.

Hi Tim
Had thought of getting over for the gig but a very good friend has said he is coming up to Whitby for that weekend and is staying with us, don't get the chance to see him often as he is in the RN and I might not catch him again for years

Not to worry Nick; we'll all be over for the Runswick Bay do anyway. Drinking muscles are being limbered up as I type, and beer goggles are being polished....
Very best

Hi Trevor; probably, but your best bet is to ring Malcolm Moger, the landlord at the Wilkes. It's this weekend...

Big thank you to Isambarde, who played an absolute stormer at the Wilkes Head on Saturday. Not a 'folky' audience, but blown away by a band at the top of their game. Great stuff.
