I thought I had the lyrics somewhere, but I can't find them on the old PC, here... I'd have to transcribe them from the recording, and I haven't really the time to do that this week.

However, I did a googleen, and found This Site, which has the Andy Irvine Songbook: "Aiming For The Heart" (which includes 'Baneasa's'..., and a few more, to boot) for sale...

You mightn't have to go that far at all neither, as Amazon might have it as well.

In Baneasa's green forest out under the trees
We'd lie on our backs, we'd live at our ease
We'd wake in the morning at the first shafts of day
And watch the shy deer as they scampered away

We'd rise from our warm beds as the sun it got higher
And cook up our breakfast on a sweet scented fire

In the still early morning a cool gentle breeze
And the echo of woodpeckers rings through the trees

We'd sit in our glade till the heat of the day
Walk down to the zoo to sing and to play

Well the money rolled in and the people looked on
When the hat was quite full we'd up and be gone
In Dimovitsas tavern we spent money free
And drank to our friends wherever they may be.

We'd talk of old times, fond memories we'd trade
At duck we'd walk home to Baneasa's green glade.

Andy writes:
"When I first arrived in Bucharest, I had nowhere to stay and after wandering around, found myself in Baneasa forest. Wound up staying there for months, earning a living busking outside the zoo on Sundays. It was an idyllic spot.

There's a few diacritics missing in the placenames, BTW!

Thanks so much to all for your efforts, it took me a while to get back-- a storm in our neck of the woods brought two huge pine trees down on our power and phone lines and it took a while to get it sorted out.

Andy actually performed this with Paul Brady at Celtic Connections in Glasgow on Wednesday night. Andy thought that the musicians were a greater attraction at Bucharest zoo than the elephants!

The first half was made up of songs they had performed together, not all of which had been recorded. The second half contained the songs from their 1976 album Andy Irvine and Paul Brady. Whilst these had all been recorded, some of them had not been performed!

Hold on, said Andy as he tuned his hurdy gurdy.
We've been waiting thirty years for this concert, replied Paul, We're not going to hurry it now!

It was a great occasion and a terrific performance by them both.
