Chord Req: Newry Highwayman

Hi folks.
I've just startet to try out DADGAD-tuning on my guitar, and that sure is a new, fun and exciting experience for an old standard tuning guitarplayer as myself. Now I'm trying to figure out what chords John Doyle uses on The Solas version of Newry Highwayman (on their first album and also on their great Reunion album).
Anyone out there i Mudcat-land who knows and could help me out on this one?

I play that one in Dropped-D (I believe John Doyle does as well). I got the chords off the Solas version and what I came up with goes like this:
Intro

D/ C/ G/ C/ D/ C/ G/ Am/ C/ D/ C/ D/ C/ G

G       D          C       G
In Newry town I was bred and born,
             D         C       G
In Stephen's Green now I lie in scorn.
            Am          C       D
I served my time in the saddling trade,
         G       C      D
I always was the rovin' blade,
         G       C      G
I always was the rovin' blade.

Instrumental Bridge:

Em/ Bm/ C/ D/ C/ D
Em/ Bm/ C/ D/ C/ D/ C/ G

That's the way I hear it, good luck.

Oh, also a 2nd position G chord without the 3rd (lift up your middle finger to eliminate the B and sound the G at the third string) works well throughout and Solas used the bridge as an intro in some versions, as I recall. vl

Looking back at this the chords don't correspond with the way I positioned them over the words in my initial post but they are correct within their lines.vl

Found this at the last minute (libary computers, and no lunch blood sugar crash immanent--sp?) Trying FOREVER to get this. THANK YOU!!! Solas rules! Also Diego Del Gastor, but that's Flamenco...

Does anybody know where I can find sheet music for the Newry Highwayman? Specifically, I would like to know the notes for the lyrics that Karen Casey is singing. Thanks!

If looked up the ABC tutorials and may have gone snowblind before I found it, but could you please explain the lowercase "z"? Or if you're feeling generous, the whole thing? I just don't seem to be processing what I'm reading on the various sites. I've been reaing notes, and tabs for long and long, and maybe I'm just stuck in a Geezer-Mind-Rust zone on this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, CharleyD2

Hi Charley, lower case z indicates a rest. I sing the Solas version of this but reading through the above ABC it doesn't sound like the Solas version. I learned this by ear in D and find that the chords that Van Lingle posted above seem to be very close to what Doyle plays on the Solas recording. Good luck.

Solas is one of my favorite bands; just wondering, I haven't heard their version of NH, but is it the same song that Seamus Kennedy does such a fine job on? Jus' askin'.
