02 Feb 08 - 12:54 PM (#2251599) Subject: gem on the beeb From: Llanfair We tend to leave the radio on all night, and this morning at 2-30, I half woke to hear June Tabor doing bits of "No man's Land" I listened on, and it turned out to be a programme called "Close up" Songs of the earth. It was a half hour programme with snippets of songs, and servicemen talking about their experiences. I heard Billy Bragg, snippets of Waltzing matilda, and all sorts. It can be found on the bbc world service site, and is well worth a listen. Preferably awake-ish!! |

Yes there are some wonderful serendipitous moments when you do that. Mind you, sometimes before the late and very lamented John Peel died, I woke up to some horrid noises. His choice of music was a bit too avant garde for me. G. |
