gem on the beeb

We tend to leave the radio on all night, and this morning at 2-30, I half woke to hear June Tabor doing bits of "No man's Land" I listened on, and it turned out to be a programme called "Close up" Songs of the earth. It was a half hour programme with snippets of songs, and servicemen talking about their experiences. I heard Billy Bragg, snippets of Waltzing matilda, and all sorts.
It can be found on the bbc world service site, and is well worth a listen.
Preferably awake-ish!!

Nice to know we're not the only folks who go to sleep with the radio on every night. Yes there are some wonderful serendipitous moments when you do that. Mind you, sometimes before the late and very lamented John Peel died, I woke up to some horrid noises. His choice of music was a bit too avant garde for me.
