I found this photo on the Elderly site where they have Wade Mainer's banjo up for sale. It doesn't identify anyone but I can see a few of the Almanacs.

Thanks Doc John!
If anyone wants the banjo it's going for $130,000.
It looks like the photo was taken in a radio station or a recording studio as there is a control room in back. I wonder what the event was that brought so many legends together in one spot?

It was in fact taken in a radio station in New York I think. It was a programme made for the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation)during WW2 and the programme is available on CD. Not within reach of my shelves at the monemt so can't give you the details immediately.

PS the identification above has mixed Wade Mainer and Red Rector

I think the photo dates from the session for THE MARTINS AND THE COYS, a production that Alan Lomax put together that was broadcast in the UK on the BBC. It's now available on CD.

I see Red Rector shares my taste in twotone shoes.
