I remember a big chunk of it, but it seems like a verse may be missing.

ahem.... mi mi mi mi miiii

a boy took a girl in a little canoe when the moon was shining all around and as he plyed his paddle you couldn't even hear a sound so they talked and they talked til the moon grew dim he said you better kiss me or get out and swim so what you gonna do in a little canoe **when the moon is shining all around?

(repeat until **) when the moon is shining all-a, boys are paddling all-a, girls are swimming all around.

"A boy took a girl in a little canoe
With the moon shining all around
And as they paddled that little canoe
You couldn't even hear a sound!
So they talked and they talked 'til the moon grew dim
And the boy said Kiss me or get out and swim
So what'chu gonna do in a little canoe
With the girl paddling all-a
The boy swimming all-a
The moon shining all around?
Hey!"

There're hand motions, too. The way I learned it was actually with the girl getting out and swimming, but I like this version better.

On the topic of canoes I'll post this beautiful song by the late John Hartford (hope no one minds).

On Tombigbee river so bright I was born,
In a hut made of husks of the tall yaller corn,
An there I first met with my Julia so true
An I row'd her about In my Gum Tree Canoe

Chorus:
Singing row away row, O'er the waters so blue,
Like a feather we'll float, In my Gum Tree Canoe

All day in the field of soft cotton I hoe,
I think of my Julia and sing as I go,
Oh I catch her a bird, with a wing of true blue,
An at night sail her round in my Gum Tree Canoe.
Singing row away

Chorus

With my hands on the banjo and toe on the oar,
I sing to the sound of the rivers soft roar;
While the stars they look down at my Julia so true,
An' dance in her eye in my Gum Tree Canoe.
Singing row away

John Hartford recorded GUM TREE CANOE but he didn't write it. It was written by S. S. Steele in 1847. See this thread: Lyr Req: Gum Tree Canoe

I'm sorry for the misundertsanding ... I never said he wrote it ... the only version of the song I've heard is by John Hartford. Regardless, it's a wondeful song.
